Disconnected my battery and guess what--

Disconnected my battery and guess what--

Postby jig47 » Fri Feb 18, 2005 3:40 pm

I was feeling ambitious and frisky this morning and decided to reset my ECM by disconnecting the battery for about an hour. Other posts claiming that the computer would re-learn my new aggressive driving style intrigued me, so I decided to give it a shot. After gunning it at about ten stop lights my car now thinks it is a 1992 Camaro Z-28. No, I meant to say a 62 Corvair. Seriously, It seems a little more agressive with shifts a little bit higher, but this could just be my imagination. Also, the dreaded 1-2 shift stall seems lessened if I hit the throttle a little harder from a coasting situation. Here's the kicker though. My 1- touch window and 1-touch sunroof switches are not working. I have to hold them thru the whole process. Called the dealership and they told me that the windows and sunroof should have been down/open when you disconnect the battery as the car has to relearn this process and now the door panel has to come off to reset the switch or somesutch assinine process. This car is a royal pain in the arse and it's too smart for it's own good (translation, the engineers who designed this car and its associated components are pretty stupid). I wish I would have known this before I disconnected the battery, cuz I am addicted to the 1-button pushdown. If anyone knows anything about this, please comment, as I don't relish another trip to my Stealer, I mean Dealer.

wow i never hear about this and i think it is BS, why car need to learn how to roll the window? that's freaking retard and sounds like what GM would do. check with other dealer and see what they say. But as far as my experience, I dont have such problem in Gen 1 and accords.

it is possible that your car once had 87 octane and it cause the car locked in limb mode because of detonation happened in your high compression motor. once you reset it, it back to the normal mode.

so they mean to tell you that every time your battery goes dead and you replace it you have to rip out your door panel to reset the switch?
Thats a load of crap!!!

Someone is pulling your chain.

It seems like an event that was completely unrelated to disconnecting the battery. I had mine disconnected for a few hours when I installed XM, although with the roof and windows down because I wanted ventilation while installing.

However, you are correct about the responsiveness and the ECU re-learning the habits. I have noticed such.

Nah~ it’s true..
I know it sounds odd that 1-touch window/sunroof has to reset once battery disconnect.
I know it’s not only happening to solara.
most cars which has 1-touch function required reset if battery disconnect. (i know every Honda has to reset also.)
but then, i never heard relearn process required to take door panel off...

Reset process is pretty easy...
1.turn the car power on (leave driver side door open)
2.roll the window all the way down (or open sun-roof fully open)
3.turn off the power then close the door properly
4.turn the power on again
5.close the window all the way up (or fully close sun-roof)
6.turn off the power

1 touch system should work now. Otherwise, contact dealer~

resetting the 1-touch window/sunroof

Postby jig47 » Sat Feb 19, 2005 1:14 pm

I took boaclub923's advice and tried his described fix. This did work for the driver window, but did not change anything on the sunroof, i.e. you still have to hold the switch continuously. Thank you boaclub923
for part A. Any solutions for part B? :drinking:

I don't have the Owners Man in front of me but didn't they have the window calibration steps in there?

i know after i disconnect my battery on my 03 camry se, the one touch moon roof doesn't work anymore and i was told that i just need to recalibrate the moonroof again by press TILT UP and hold it until it tilt all the way up and stop by itself, and it is working again.
i am not sure if the same technique will work for gen2

1-touch button solved

Postby jig47 » Sun Feb 20, 2005 7:18 am

I tried bronzemaxell's fix and dang if it didn't work for the sunroof. I am back in business. You guys are da bomb. I would like to drop a bomb on my dealer. The actual fixes were quite different than those indicated by the dealer. Just goes to show what your are "dealing with".

Switch operation is binary, 0/1, on or of,f so it makes sense that the ECU needs to be reset. As far as the ECU having fuzzy logic or AI it is extremely unlikey. If it had this type of capability Toyota would have taken into consideration to adjust for multiple drivers of the same vehicle. This would require profiling - to keep it simple....seperate logins/individual identifiers in order to track/capture driver's characteristics.

I also had this problem, and figured out how to reset both the window and sunroof, by just opening and closing them a couple of times. My question is though I never really pay attention to when the sunroof opened before, but does your sunroof open all the way when you use the one touch or does it stop like 2-3 inches from fully openning, then you have to press the button to open it the rest of way? I might have to reset it again, if supposed to open all the way. Any help would be greatly apprecatied.

1-touch sunroof button

Postby jig47 » Tue Feb 22, 2005 8:28 pm

My sunroof opens all the way with one touch of the button. I suggest you try bronzemaxell's procedure for resetting the sunroof. Otherwise, I suggest you disconnect the battery and re-try again.

I did disconnect and reconnect the battery again and the sunroof stop about 2 inches from full opening, so I went up to the toyota dealer and we tried this on a new solara and does the same exact thing. I suggest you open your sunroof with the one touch and when it stops, press the button and i wil bet it opens just a little more.
