That is an awesome video! It's not like the first time I saw the Apache. In the mid 80s I was in the Army (I know that's before some of you were born  ) in Arizona at Yuma Proving Grounds. The proving grounds are where they test new "stuff". We saw the Cobra at a live fire demonstration come through at high speed and RIPPED up a car! Then it was the Apache's turn and it MISSED every single shot! Just a glitch in early development. I'd seen it on the range and it is VERY impressive! I developed testing procedures to check/align the Black Hawk's instrumentation. -JoeB

That's not an Apache in those videos. It looks like a guy holding a gun in the back cargo area of a Blackhawk or something. He's manually aiming the gun. An Apache is a two seater with a gun hanging under the cockpit that is aimed by a helmet sight. You don't see that in that video.

^^^very true...it's a vulcan mounted on the side of a huey, the Apache has a 30mm mounted underneath, just like you said. Joe B, that's hilarious that you configured instrumentation for the blackhawk, that's what i fly

that's pretty cool.
Is that the same gun Jesse James used to destroy an RX-7 build gone bad. One of the clips looked like it??
very cool either way.

Damn that hoes.ca is a messed up site. All kinds of lost in that thing. But yeah sweet video. I wonder how fast those things are going.

Didn't really look into it.

Well the link doesn't work anymore but none the less I work for Boeing and we make the Apache and Apache Longbow. I was on that program in Mesa AZ for 8 of my ten years with Boeing.

As a soldier I worked/flew the Apache A model for the last 9 years I was on active duty. I also flew them during Desert Shield/Storm. (Bronze Star Medal)

Here's a great link if you're really interested.

Interesting Sidenote:

You're only seeing 1/6 of what that gun actually fires. Every 6th round is a tracer round - the red lights you're seeing. They start firing, and track onto their targets using the tracers. They fire...a lot... of bullets.

isn't the a-10 gatling the fastest firing in the military....i think i remember seeing on discovery or something that it holds 3000 rounds and is empty in under a minute if you just hold the trigger....tank killer is right....

Yes, fastest firing rate and some of the fastest rounds. I'll do some research to find the actual numbers, but I know it's mind-blowing.
