yeah, i think all solara came with standard chips controlled engine start system. u can go try duplicate ur car key and try to turn on ignition.
u should find it's impossible to turn on engine~

The car WON'T start unless it recognizes the chip that's in the key. Thats the main reason why a replacement key for the car is so expensive (the chip inside).

EXPENSIVE? nah.. i think it's ok~
it's so much cheaper than new accord's key...
it's so cool that they get key with build-in wireless transmiter~
but... accord's owners definatly ganna cry when their keys drop into water..
cause each set of key cost $200 on accord,
while solara only required to change transmiter.
so, i'm glad solara keep old style car key, even though it's ugly looking.

and yeah~ hot wire is impossible to start engine...
that's why chip inside of ur key is very very important..
and remember to BACKUP ur master key...
cause if u lost it... u need to replace whole immobilizer system..
very costly... it stated in ur owners manul. go check it for detail~

good luck

I would not call the key ugly looking. I have big hands and the large size

of the key (with built in transmitter) makes it easier to hold and use the

key.

I like the transmitter on the key, like the Lexus RX.

you know... if someone really wants to steal your car, they will. That, you can not help.

but to deter theft, transponder keys were made. its not made to stop someone from stealing a car 100% but it helps.

if you think you are REALLY paranoid of someone stealing your car, buy an autolock or some other security devices on top of your alarm.

I completely agree with mole. If they really wanted the car, they would flatbed it.

The immobilizer system does do a great job at detering the common theives and joy riders

Easier for the thiefs to get a VIN and a lazy dealer to get a key made. Or do we have a key code too?

or make a new copy of ur master key and place it somewhere secure.
only MASTER key can make duplicated key.
