Seems Like Gen 2 Solara Is Having LOTS OF PROBLEMS!

Postby Sn88pyBQ » Tue Jan 25, 2005 9:44 pm

I have the Solara V6 SLE right now so if I get it it'll be TOP OF THE LINE SLE V6 with NAV. I want every option I can for the car!

About the frame-less windows, its kinda anoyying hearing the noise outside your car. I can hear lots of noise from my Solara right now. I wouldn't what that to happen again.

Is there any other car you guys would get besides the Solara? Maybe a Lexus ES330? I think its about 5g more for that right? It might not look as sporty as a Solara but its a LEXUS thou. Or maybe wait for the GS330/430 to come out? What do you guys think?

At least I'm not scared to get the Gen 2 Solara now. lol

And if you're thinking in terms of prestige/rarity of Lexus, think about how many Solaras (or at least Gen. 2's) you see. Besides my Solara, I have seen about 2-3 others on the road total in months. I see far more Lexuses (or is it.. Lexi?), BMWs, Mercedes, Infinitis, etc. than Solaras. And honestly, I think the Solara is cooler looking and well-equipped. I definitely have the head turns and compliments to verify this 8).

Well, I really don't see much Gen 2 Solara around my area but I see alot of Gen 1-1.5s around. I see a couple of them around a day sometimes but most of them are not SLE V6s

There are lots of Lexus around but they're not the GSs. I see the first Gen 1 GS and they still look nice.

I love my current Solara but damn thing don't even have a cabin filter. In interior gets so dusty after a few days of cleaning it. The Gen 2s have the Cabin filter right?

Screw German cars! They're full of problems. :)

SN88PYBQ,
Have you even test driven the car yet? Doesn't sound like it. I'd suggest you do that and you'll be impressed at all the little improvements you'll immediately notice. I wouldn't worry about wind noise through the window since very few mentioned that. My window glass seals tight and I hear nothing through it windwise. The only other car I would consider for the same price is an Acura TSX but it's a four door and four cylinder (very quiet one though). The ES330 is more like ten thousand more with similar options since Toyota dealers come down on price more on the SOlara than Lexus dealers do on the ES.

the window problem, well like i said, happens on all frame-less window car

but it's covered in warranty, you can tell them to replace ur ruber window moulding for 10000 times until they find one that fits. basically if ur new solara came with wind noise just tell them to toss the old one out insert a new one in that will fix the prob

Well it didn't happen on my Gen1 and not on my Gen2. It's been rare to see that problem on this forum too.

Thankfully no wind noise here! I've heard some people say it only comes at 80mph+, but I haven't even heard it at those speeds.

The Gen 2 Solaras are nice, and like everyone else has said... the issues are minor. You have to realize that people usually don't say anything about the car unless it's bad.

The only issue I have with the Gen 2 Solara can be summed up in a few words:

No V6 with a manual transmission.

Thats gotta be the only thing that bothers me, I miss a real manual 6-speed. But, i'll admit the car itself makes up for such an issue.

Sn88pyBQ wrote:Ok now you guys just changed my mind! Anyone know of a good dealer and salesperson to deal with in the New York City area please let me know.

nah.... I lost thrust w/ dealers, they just going to rip every penny from you, not to mention their intimidation. Even the salesguy is nice and polite, later when doing the numbers his sales manager will talk trash.

I only go to dealer to learn abt the cars (model, equipments, options, etc, etc) and test drive; toss the business card u got during the process.

At the time I seriously decide to buy, the following is what I do:

1. see how much to buy online http://www.carsdirect.com
2. call dealer fleet managers from a few dealears and ask for a quote
3. compare all the price from the above #1 & #2 (more likely they all exact same price; from my experience); and buy the best deal.

That's it. No BS, no intimidating comments. And fast: ~15min vs ~2hr.
