Seems Like Gen 2 Solara Is Having LOTS OF PROBLEMS!

Postby Sn88pyBQ » Mon Jan 24, 2005 8:58 pm

I was thinking of trading my 2000 Solara SLE in for a new 2005 Solara SLE but I guess I'm not going 2 anytime soon. Seems like the Gen 2s are having lots of problems and I don't want ANY problems from a NEW car. What the hell is going on with Toyota or maybe its just the Gen 2 Solara?

Hmm....... any of you guys wish you didn't buy the Gen 2 Solara?

Lots of problems huh? Don't think so IMO. Most of the so-called problems mentioned here are minor. Every car make has problems. To be guaranteed no problems from a new car is harder than ever these days it seems. I don't at all think I shouldn't have bought it. This is the best car I've ever owned. Minor problems like rattling in rear deck and door (which were both easily fixed) and a slight left drift doesn't bother me. The big upgrade in performance and features are what thrilled me and continue to thrill me. Look at forums for other cars you're interested in and I'm absolutely sure you'll find that some of them have problems too.

The gen 2 Solara had a few problems when first coming off the

assembly line.
No more, no less than any manufacturer after a total

redesign of a model.

As information comes in about problems they are corrected in

manufacturing process and within a year or so the bugs are usually

worked out as they are now with the Gen 2 Solara.

I also had a 2002 Toyota Camry XLE V6 one of the first off the assembly

line in Japan (Canadian Car) and yes there was problems with this major

redesign of the Camry. I had the front brakes totally replaced because

of major vibrations that developed after only 7000 miles.

One should note that Toyota covers brake problems for the length of

the warranty unlike most of Detroit iron that is one year for brake

problems even if their rotors are no f......ing good.

I am totally satisfied with my 2005 Solara SLE V6 Convertible and have

not had any problems. And I am even happier now that I have had

a total TRD makeover, now where is the Supercharger for the 3.3 liter?

300 Horsepower please then I will need the Stoptech big brake kit to

go along with it. TRD are you listening we want a Supercharger!!!!!!!!

just remember, people who complaints are always louder than praise. Take some of the complaints on the forum with a grain of salt because there are thousands of other satisfied customers.

As car enthusiasts, we tend to be pickier and therefore notice all the little flaws that don't detract from the overall quality of a car

don't sweat the small stuff. I'm the first to gripe about a little thing that bugs me but I love
this car! Like stated above, I don't post just to say how much I love the beep when unlocking
remotely, I post to whine about a little issue to see if it's been solved. She's a slick
ride and you shouldn't pass on it. Anything you see here is quickly followed up with a TSB.
If you do skip it, good like finding a solid quality car like this one.

One note

If you are going to buy a Gen 2 Solara if you can afford it get the

Navigation option for the $1300. Toyota Navigation (Fujitsu Ten) is

acknowledged as one of the best in the automotive industry and is

a pain to install after the fact. I know the the Dealers will try and tell

you that you don't need it if they do not have any in stock just to clear

their inventory.

Also the XM factory installed is better than having the lot boy rip your

new car apart to install the reciever. They always seem to damage the

trim, maybe it is the screwdriver they use ha,ha,ha.

Anyways the moral is to get everything you want factory installed even if

you have to custom order from the factory.

I love my Solara. She's a fun ride. I had minor warranty fixes but no major problems. If you do decide to get the Solara, I highly recommend the Navi. Good luck. 8)

No problems whatsoever with my 2005 SLE (4 banger). I see many people mentioning the factory NAVI system. I really really really wanted that, but what nobody here mentioned was that it's only available with the V6 models. Unfortunately V6 was out of my range (and I honestly have no need for the extra power and larger rims). I prefer the better fuel mileage the I4 gives too. But if you're in the market for a V6 model (however I note you only mentioned SLE, not SLE V6, so you'd be buying essentially what I own!), definitely try getting the navigation.

having a few problems? yeah

anything in particular that ppl can't live with? well, none

the most significan't one is the left-drift, and to be honest with you, it is annoying to a certain degree, but it really is not a "drift" as some of u might be thinking. it's not like if u let go of the steering and the car will start to turn in a huge circle by itself over and over again. if u are traveling down a straight road and you let the steering go, MOST of the time the car is still gonna go straight. what you feel while driving this car is, the "left" direction of the steering is lighter,(or easier to turn to compare to right direction) so any kinda bumps, dent and/or elevation on the ground will make it go left instead of bumping to right sometimes. that's it. i can honestly say you won't feel it most of the time.

rattle: the rattle in my experience only comes up in cold weather, again i might be wrong, but rattle comes up really rarely, and when it does come up, it is not a Harley engine or a chain-saw, it's hardly even a ticker. it's minimal noise for a period of couple second, and again it comes up very rarely. when it did come up again, you won't even remember when's the last time that happened.

window wind-noise: i believe all frame-less window car has that problem, sometimes the window is pressed to tightly onto the rubber underneath it create a tiny gap. so once u leave the window down for a long time and roll it back up there's an small opening between ur window and the rubber moulding beneath. give it a little push, or, in my case, one trip to the dealer, tell them to put on brand new rubber moulding, and 30 minutes after u have a perfectly sealed-shut window.

the acceleration lag: i have the four cylinder, so i don't know much about it.

i've seen german-built car that are much much more pricier and offer not much more in return (or even less) that has more problems such as malfunctioning window/moonroof where the window just ceased to function, transmissions and most often electrical gizmos that just dies on you. compare to camry and corolla or other near-problem free car, solara does loose it's edge a little. but like i said, anything that will ananoying or frustrate you? none
