Factory Intake Modified, Flapper valve removed!!
Hey guys and gals, I was bored this afternoon so I decided to remove the falpper valve in the intake and the secondary filter in the air box. I actually think it was put there to reduce intake noise but it certainly is a restriction.
Removal of the flapper was not that hard just use a dremel and no it does not look to pretty once you are done but you cannot see inside the intake tube anyway. The secondary filter you just gring down the nubs on the inside and it comes right out. Plugged everything back in and looks completely stock. No check engine lights!
Performance! There is most definitely a difference in performance. Throttle response is greatly improved. You know when you swing past about 3200 to 3300 rpm's and the car gets into the so called power band it really kicks in and gets moving well that transition is gone. It is completely smooth right off idle all the way to redline. Performance off idle is most noticeable. I am also still using the stock filter. If Injen's makes 9+ HP I certainly believe this modification makes some good gains as well. Yes Injen's approch is less convoluted no doubt but it does not draw cold air. There is no way I will shell out 200.00 plus dollars after doing this modification my cost will be a panel filter and that's it. Intake noise is slightly more but by no means offensive while driving.
Our air box is certainly one of the most restrictive I have seen compared to all the cars I have owned. Certainly there is power to be gained either way.
