Disk Oxidation

Disk Oxidation

Postby online » Sun Jan 09, 2005 8:30 am

I'm finally in a point in life where I can keep 2 cars on the road. My 05 only has 2K on it (purchased in August) and to this point have not driven it in the rain. Livning in the NE its now snowing or raining ever couple of days so sadly my rag top sits in the garage. I do start it up perodically but haven't had it on the road in about 3 weeks. I've noticed that the disks are oxidizing and I wondered if there is anything that I should be concerned about. Will the disks polish back up once I start driving/braking?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I drive mine daily. When i wash it the discs turn orange pretty quickly, but after a spin around the block they are back to normal.

Mine show oxidation after a car wash all the time. This nothing to be concerned about, just drive it around your street and it will polish up again.

Its very simple, your rotors get microscopic pits in them and it exposes more surface area to oxidize on. Thats why they "rust" so quickly

Its nothing to worry about

Thanks to all that provided feedback!

Unfortunately it continues to rain, sleet and snow here in the Northeast. Hopefully I can get the rag top out of hibernation before Spring rolls around! :D

Why can't you drive the ragtop in the winter? I see Solara ragtops driving around here now in bad weather. The top is pretty waterproof. What's the big deal?

I just like keeping it clean especially when there is salt and dirt on the road from sanding....its great keeping it in like new condition! I run my 89 SHO in foul weather. It still runs very strong (195+K and its great being able to drive a stick now and again. I also have access to my wife's explorer.

fyi...weather finally broke and I took the rag top out of hibernation (disks polished right back up)...top stayed up though...it was in the 20s and its dropping down to single digits later tonight with more snow in the forecast!

Thanks again for everyone's input!
