Wrecked my car today :(

Wrecked my car today :(

Postby Jewls » Mon Dec 20, 2004 3:23 pm

Well, I was hoping that I would never have to have body work done to my baby, but I made the dumbest mistake today. I was pulling into the right side of the garage, and our 6x12 trailer was to my left in the driveway. I was looking to my left to make sure that I did not hit the trailer, and when I tapped the brake I also tapped the gas which send me forward and I hear.....CRUNCH!!! I had not cleared my right side enough, so it knocked off my mirror and broke it to bits, and my door skin is rippled, along with a few minor scuffs on my fender and quarter. Did you know our mirrors, NON-heated, are $230?????????? So anyway, the car is gonna be $1200 to fix, and who knows how much to replace the two trim pieces I ruined on the house going into the garage. I got a used mirror for $110, but the boyfriend is not home yet, so that did not even seem like good news to me considering how he's gonna react. I am such a retard

Sorry to hear that Jewls. Where are you taking your car for repair? Will this come out of your pocket or insurance?

Dang, it must be tear up a Solara day! Holiday season, it was bound to happen I guess. I am going to file a claim with my insurance, mainly because the body shop is hooking me up and helping me to come the least out of pocket with my $500 deductible. Good thing is, the claim will be comprehensive, and the ins. company payout will be less than $1000, so it won't cause my rate to increase.

Bonus-my boyfriend was totally cool about the whole thing, and said $hit happens, so we are gonna replace the trim piece on the house ourselves to save my insurance premium from going up. :)

Comp claim? Who's your insurance company? If you don't mind me asking, of course.

Yeah it's an at fault comprehensive claim, but luckily the payout is less than $1000 for the ins. company, so it won't count against me. I am with Progressive.

Just got my Solara back from the body shop (minor driver-side door and rear QTR panel ). They did an OK job, but it took 3.5 weeks to get the skins. Since the '04 is a new body style, the only place to get the panels was from Toyota, which was a good thing, but just took a while. Be sure the shop is reputable, since the Solara is so "sculpted" it's difficult to align everything just right, and easy to spot a hack-job.

Let me know how it goes!

Jewls...get the car back yet. I know how you feel...I bought mine last March...3 weeks later a deer ran into the drivers side front fender...$1700 worth of damage. $500 came out of my pocket also. She messed the fender up, busted the headlight and put a dent in the hood...plus chipped the paint on the door. The body shop I dealt with was great...in and out in less than a week...and the painter did a great job matching the pearl paint. He said that the pearl is a bear to match. Then to top it off yesterday morning I was leaving for work and backed into my Toyota pickup that my wife moved. Didn't hurt the Solara but did put a nice dent in the truck. We won't worry about that right now.
