compression ratio comparison between I4 gen 2 and scion tc

They are both 9.6:1. The Scion motor is slightly tuned, though, putting out 160 bhp @ 5700 / 163 ft/lbs @ 4000 versus the Solara's 157 bhp @ 5600 / 162 ft/lbs at 4000. They both have the same 2362 displacement with a borexstroke of 3.48 X 3.78. Both are 16DOHC.

I'm pretty sure it's just the ECM making these small differences. They would be felt in the Scion tc though at 2970 lbs versus the Solara's 3230 lbs, or a fat 260 lbs difference.

hmm... those numbers are too close together to have 2 different internal engine tuning.

perhaps its just the trans along with weight of the car that made those numbers?

the weight of the car and the transmition have nothing to do with the engine power rating at the crank (as in this case).

Maybe its the ECU. Those kinds of difference can be done just by tweaking the ECU (in general).

I'm pretty sure its just ECU tuning and/or just higher rating. Doesn't take much to get 3 additional hp. Infact a few degrees of ambient air temp will vary hp more than that

My assertion was that with the lower weight of the Scion tc, the driver will "feel" the additional power (or the same power will feel like more) given the comparative power to weight ratios. My assertion was not that the car "had" more horsepower because of its lower weight.
