What grade gas do you run

What grade gas do you run

and what kind of mileage do you get?

I was running 93 strictly from BP, but decided to drop it down to just regular to see if what I thought about mileage on higher gas is true. I get about 80 more miles out of a tank on 93 than I do on 87.

I figured when it came out that it was talked about who would run what, but didn't think anything would come of it. I did enter 93, but didn't hit the "add" button, so it didn't make it on there. I'm just curious because of the huge difference I"m getting between the grades. I just need to sit down and do the math and see if it's worth paying the extra .20 for premium.

the higher the octance, the better the response,

however the higher the octane, the worse gas mileage you get.

Are you sure about that??? The only thing I've done is change my octane to a lesser, and I get far worse mileage.

almost positive.

observe what happens when you use 100oct, vs 91 or 93 oct.

I don't think so man. You get better gas mileage with higher octane. I always got better mileage in my 00 Camry with 89 or 91 as opposed to 87.

i agree with rohand. my 00 sentra got about 3mpg more with 89 and had way better response. i use 87 in the solara now because its cheaper and im stuck in traffic most of the time.

From the way I understand it, the higher octane burns cleaner, leaving less residue etc in the fuel system which increases MPG.

perhaps this does not include the usage of 100oct.

please, try 100oct (race fuel if you dont know) and record your mileage.

your mustang will thank you. it is expensive, but its worth the try.

You guys are all wasting your money. Higher octane will not give you better performance or better gas mileage. Octane is used to measure 1 thing and 1 thing only, the fuel ability to resist pre-ignition. This means higher octane fuel is actually harder to burn than lower octane. All the rest of the stuff is in your head. Next time have your friend buy gas for you and not tell you which grade, do this for 3-5 tanks. I bet you won't be able to tell which grade it was.

so then, why do i get way lower mileage if i were to use 100 oct, vs 91 oct?

wont higher grade gas prevent knock/ping better than lower grade?
