Steering wheel squeak?

Steering wheel squeak?

Postby neo6205 » Tue Dec 14, 2004 9:11 am

I've noticed in the first 10-15 minutes of driving that when I crank on the steering wheel slowly it lets out a little squeak. Almost sounds like a high pitched fart? I know it's not a belt or anything becasue I hear it coming straight from the stearing column. Any one else experience this or have an idea how to get rid of it?

you sure its not your self letting morning thunder out ? jk.

see what happens if you get down to where the pedals are, there is the steering stem. see if you can grease that area.

Ahh, this was one of my first topics i ever posted about! The verdict was it had to do with the cold...once it warms up, the gears or wahtever arent as solid...something like that

No idea but Im goin to make a wild guess. Same problem happen on my old maxima and its yeah just the weather. When its cold for some reason my stearing fluid needs to warm up or something so when you steer and turn the pressure makes the sound. This is off the maxima, Might be the same off the solara.

I had the same issue with the squeak. I was able to eliminate it by spraying silicone in the steering column/stem area down by the pedals and floorboard. Originally, I had thought that it was at the steering column, but it was actually lower. If you look at the steering column/stem area by the pedals while turning the wheel, you will see and hear where the squeak is coming from. Spraying some silicone in that area immediately got rid of the squeak.

Hope this helps!

I hope it works for you. It was really nice being able to get rid of the squeak. Funny enough, it would only happen during the winter and it got worse this year.
