Recommended Toyota Dealer Service prices - about right?

Recommended Toyota Dealer Service prices - about right?

Postby slingshot » Fri Dec 03, 2004 8:37 pm

The dealer where I get service done charges these prices (tax not shown) for service:

Every 5,000 miles - $109.98
Every 10,000 miles - $139.96
Every 15,000 miles - $279.94
Every 30,000 miles - $339.93

They itemize out everything so you can pick and choose what you want or don't want. They also offer a lifetime free oil change deal costing $150. The prices above don't include oil changes and assume you are a member of the lifetime oil club. I am. I've always had good service at this place and they are always very nice and professional. Their prices seem to have gone up alot the last few years though. How do these prices compare to other dealerships?

LOL, what is included in the 5,000 mile service? My dealer did the 5,000 mile service and just changed the oil, rotated the tires, and checked everything, charging me less than $40.

They say the 5000 service includes:
inspect hoses, belts, steering linkage, ball joints, top off brake fluid, washer solvent, battery water, power steering fluid and auto transmission fluid, inspect drive shaft boots, body/chassis nuts and bolts for $ 39.99
Rotate and computer balance 4 tires, check tire pressure for $69.99

Inspection of those items plus the topping off of fluids is routine for dealers. They'll look for anything possible to get additional work. Want to get irritated? Check your fluid levels before you take the car in for service and check them again after. 7 times out of 10 the fluid levels will not have changed, even when additional fluid is neeed.

Also, unless you have new tires installed or notice vibration, why would you balance the wheels at 5,000 miles?

Slingshot,
Thanx for defending the dealership, and glad you are happy.
The big service is the 30 k, we even have rental cars for that due to the amount of time we have the car.
Your prices do seem a little high though.
TW85, our dealership does,nt work that way, the customer is shown where the fluids levels are if they are interesed, and as far as balancing tires at 5k, we recommend tire rotation every other oil change. We have'nt won Toyota's President award for service by "getting addtional work"
Sorry not flaming, we just try to do it right.

Wow, your dealership has really low prices. Maybe NY prices are inflated. This dealership used to be the lowest in my area but recently they raised their prices to match others. At least they itemize it all out and let you pick and choose what you want to be done. That also lets me know what should be done and I could bring my car to an independent shop to have it done for less if I really wanted.

The big cost at every 15,000 miles is EFI service - power flush fuel injectors, add cleaner to fuel tank for $109.99. Is that really necessary every 15K? If not, I can just refuse it.
The big cost at every 30,000 miles is Auto transmission power flush costing $129.99. Is that really necessary every 30,000? Again, if not I can refuse and pay less.
Junest, are those two things in your prices for 15K and 30K services?

How often do you recommend an oil change then? My dealer says every 5000 miles is fine!

How about you move your dealership to the Hilton Head region then? I hate going to my dealer just because it is a hassle in that nothing is fixed the first time.

Ouch!

All these seem really high. In Canada all the prices for service are fixed

by Toyota Canada and they are the same at all Dealerships and posted on

the wall when you walk in. And it appears that they check a lot more things

at each service. The price for a 5000/10000/15000 mile service is $29.99

Here is a link to the maintenance menu and it shows just how much work is done.

Dealers here do not give first 5K service free. All I was offered was first oil change free. Amazing differences in service prices and a great website for Canada.

Every 5,000 miles is fine. It is what Toyota recommends and it is what most other manufacturers recommend. The oil companies, however, do not.
