Front Driver's Dash Rattle

Front Driver's Dash Rattle

I know the rattle coming from the front driver's dash area is a common problem. Has anyone found the cause of the rattle? Since the weather is cooler now it is driving my crazy. I absolutely cannot stand the sound of rattles!

My dad works for Visteon, and they were actually doing some reserach on that about 6 months ago. Though they were more concerned with the Camry's than the Solara's. I never heard an update on it.

Can you pinpoint where the sounds are coming from in the front driver's dash area at all? Example, just to the left and above the speedometer. If you bang on the area, is there any change at all?

Haven't been able to pinpoint the area. Sounds like a wire harness hitting something so I reached my hand up under the dash, felt everything I could reach...a nice long cut on the top of my hand was all I managed to get.

Usually the rattle seems to be coming from the right passenger window or the seat belt, I'm not too sure myself, It only happens when a loud truck or a civic with a muffler the size of my face go by. But interestingly enough, I dont get dash rattle when I play loud sounds with loud bass, only maybe from the rear, and that I guess needs some more dampening.

I had a buzzing sound for awhile on the drivers side behind my ear. For the longest time I thought it was the window. I brought it to the dealer and they found the sound came from the seat belt housing behind my ear. They had to open it up and tighten something that got loose. Lucky me I didn't need the seat belt in an emergency.

I had mine fixed by the dealer under warrenty.

The problem was that the cowl (plastic piece between the dash and windshield) was slightly warped. They couldn't even tell it was warped until the took the dash apart to find loose items, and when a tech laid the cowl on the floor, he noticed it was warped.

They replaced the piece and the car has been silent since.

I noticed the rattle today when I shut my door, so naturally I played with the door/window a bit. I found that if I crack the window just a little bit (1/4-1/2") the rattle nearly disappears. It is still there but not nearly as bad or frequent.

So what do I make of that?

Bring it to the dealer and explain that and let them fix the window or door frame. I thought you said though that your rattle was on the dash somewhere. Next to your ear is far away from in front of you. Different new rattle?

Beats me. During the day the rattle seemed to have gone away for the most part but it was back in full force tonight. Same rattle I think.

The rattle is definitely affected by temperature. I had it in the spring before it got into the 80s and 90s and now it is back with the temperature being in the 50s and 60s.

I have the same exact problem. It seems to be coming from the bubble sensor on top of the dash. The felt trick never worked. I think its the sensor. Weather definitely affects whether or not the noise will be there. Good point.
