I test-drove a tC before I finally got my 02 SE V6 5-Speed. The tC is much smaller and, in some ways more "fun" to drive at low speeds than the Solara (as someone else pointed out, the drive by wire leaves a little ot be desired). However, if you plan on doing anything but stoplight racing or commuting to work... the car will leave you lacking. The comfort in the Solara is on a whole different level, as is the luxury. Like I said in another post elsewhere, I've got friends with 4-door cars that prefer to ride backseat in my Solara because it's more comfortable than their cars are.

As for the Corolla someone mentioned... whole different beasts. 1.8 liters versus 2.5 is a big difference.

I think the tC could be a badass performer with a supercharger... but so can a Solara. Ever think of a used IS300? :)

Thanks guys for all your input. Jmack......that info really helps alot. It's def still a hard decision for me. Cuz I'm getting older and luv the luxury of the Solara. So I think the luxury and comfortness may exceed my need for a flashy little car over time. I also had some minor problems with my 2004 solara b4 i crashed it, but nothing major to complain about. I'm hoping the 05 model has perfected the problems from the 04.
Plus I travel alot and luved the space and trunk room of the solara.

I just think all the options and new design of the tC really caught my eye....but ur right, that may die down as more people buy the car.....I still don't see many new Solaras on the road as I would have thought after a yr, kinda makes it nice to have.

What did u end up paying for the tC w/the options???

If you need trunk space, the TC is not for you. You can fold down the rear seats and put stuff in the hatch, but I think that is just begging to get your window smashed. If there is a reason that I do not keep this car a long time, trunk space is it. The ride is also much stiffer. It is not bad, I have a bad back and it doesn't bother it, but like I said, these are two really different cars.

I paid about $17,600. Not too many options. Auto, basic stereo and XM radio. Dealer talked me into aftermarket XM that was a few hundred cheaper - don't do it. Get the factory. The one option that I really would have liked was the side curtain air bags, but no cars were available configured. A big part of the deal was that they took my Solara in Trade and gave me $23,000, which is what I owed on the car.

Regarding the Solara, clearly, I got a lemon. But, given some of the complaints that I saw on the forum, I had to wonder what would happen to the resale value of the vehicle. I was ready to change. If you get a Solara that is working fine, then life would be good. Good luck

Well....I went with another Solara. This time an 05 SE Sport in Red, still luv this car. Paid 22,200...lil more then my 04. Hopefully won't see any of those problems like some people with the 04. Jmack.....what was wrong w/ur Solara. I had the left drift problem w/my 04, but got that fixed immediately.

It was pretty funny at the dealer today though cuz right after i signed all the papers and was outside waiting for my car to be detailed b4 i took it home, a dark blue tC Scion was sitting outside the lot w/the sticker still on it. Started thinkin if I made the right decision cuz the car looked really nice, but after my car pulled up I was happy w/my choice. :D
