Scion Tc

Scion Tc

Postby engslut » Fri Nov 12, 2004 6:20 am

So I just crashed and totaled my 2004 SE Sport Solara of less then a yr and in the market for a new car....got 20k back for my car. I really luved my Solara, but not sure if I should get the same car or look into the Scion Tc. Looks like a pretty sharp car w/many options. I built one up loaded to about 21k.

Any input on this car would be helpful....thanks

consider trunk and extra passenger space obviously tc is a smaller car if you do any vacationing my want to reconsider.

Tc will have beter gas milage

tc will have more wow factor with younger people while solara will come off with more luxury feel

you will probably be able to do more modding on the tc

enjoy the shopping experience nothing like the smell of a new car.

on a side note did you know about the blue convertable 04 solara in the for sale section of this forum?

It all depends on what your wanting to do with your ride. If your wanting to mod it to the max, then i'm guessing tc will be a better alternative, btu then again, there are others in the tc pricerange with more capabilities. Honestly, i'd get a new tacoma..SWEET!

It's def a hard decision. I had the V6 in the solara which I luved and I know the tc only comes w/a 4 cyl., but I would also get a stick. So I'm assuming the acceleration and speed may be similiar cuz the Tc is a lighter car.

I would def get most of the mods on the Tc which is something that is attracting me to buying one....lower body kit, fog lights, spoiler, 18 rims, and custom bass tube in the trunk. I haven't had a chance to test drive one though...hopefully this weekend. I'm 25......so I kinda liked the luxury of the Solara w/the huge trunk and nice interior, but I still enjoy the speed and looks of having a flashy car.

Gimme some thoughts....thanks!

Before i bought my solara i had put money down to get a Scion, reason for me was the solara was much more luxuary oriented. The TC was a cool car but i wanted something to cruise in. Yes it was a lot more but im a happier person with the Solara SE sport.

also...difference is 300lbs between the two cars and the same hp and more low end on the solara. better susp on the tc and a better tranny.
like everyone else says. if u wanna go all out get a TC.

hope this helps

Tc will not have a better gas mileage, this tning (esp the manual) is geared so low that you have to cruise @4000+rpm and you will end up with the highway mileage of the much bigger and heavier V6 Solara.

thanks Aotoyota.....def keep that info in mind. Having more weight may help if we have another ruff winter in Jersey with the snow. I really luv the design of the new tC and all the mods to add on, but the Solara just seems to be more practical for what i need. Just wish they had more mods for it though.

When I spoke to my dealer......he said they really pulled back on the production of the new 2005 Solaras. Supposely only like 22 blk solaras in the tri-state area. So may go with the same blue color or look for a red one.

I didn't know that...

Definitely depends on what you want to do, but the tC is a great looking car, inexpensive, and you can get the SC from the dealer and put it on your note.

I would definitely check the gearing though since that sounds very very high for highway cruising. 4000 rpm would drive me nuts.

You will definitely get more aftermarket mods coming out for this car though. Forget the Solara if you want mods.

I double checked the mileage figure for tC - it is 22/29 for the manual - the highway mileage is exactly like V6 Solara (21/29). Manual 4 cyl Solara is rated 24/33.
There is something terribly wrong with the tC (considering it is much smaller and lighter car than Solara) and I think it is the gearing...

Add the supercharger and watch the mileage go out the window ...

TC

Postby jmack » Sat Nov 20, 2004 5:56 am

As someone that sold my V6 Solara and bought a TC, I can comment on the differences between the cars. There is no comparison, they are very different cars. The Solara is way more plush, and comfortable. The Solara seats are great. The ride is softer, the steering more vague.

The TC is a really nice small car. There is no trunk space to speak of. I think that is the biggest problem. The seats are very comfortable, but the ride is taut, not bad, but really different from Solara. Do not think that your gas mileage will be better. I got 16mpg with the Solara, I get 21 with the TC combined and 24 highway only. I had lots of quality control issues with the Solara, none so far with the TC.

The TC has better steering and handling. The 4cyl is not bad. I had big problems with the drive by wire with the Solara and taking off from a start was iffy. The TC moves off line pretty well. You miss the V6 at highway speeds when you want to hit the gas at 60mph. I think that the brakes are the weakest part on the TC. I am about to put new pads and stainless lines on. BTW, the tC uses crappy Bridgestone Potenzas (sound familiar?. See if dealer will replace. They are even worse than on Solara. Tires will spin on dry pavement very easily. Just changed the tires too.

Everyone thinks there are all sorts of options available for the TC. That may be true in the future, but most of them are just not available now. No Supercharger, air intake etc. Somewhere down the line they will be available, just not yet. Modding potential is greater though.

I have gotten more attention with the tC than with the Solara, but that may wear off as more people find out about the car. Monthly payment is $150.00 less than Solara and insurance is lower too. Overall, I am very happy with the TC. PM me if you want more info.
