Quick Cure for Throttle Lag - No Cost, DIY when you drive
Okay, I saw some dancing around this cure for the throttle lag in another thread, but the members were not clear on how the manumatic mode works.
CURE: Put the transmission in Manumatic mode and upshift to 5, leave it alone, and drive. That's all there is to it.
When you shift into this mode, the gear selector INDICATES 4. That is in fact the highest gear the transmission will shift into in this default. The transmission will in fact continue to operate normally in Manumatic. If you shift into this mode and then upshift to 5, you now have the transmission operating normally in all its gears. It is your option to use the manual up and down shift if you want, but if you don't, the transmission will shift normally. This is exactly what it does in Drive mode anyway.
Best of all, the lag is GONE in this mode.
This is not a sure cure, since if you put the transmission back into drive, the lag is back, and you have to watch the shift lever to make sure it isn't accidentally knocked into a lower gear indication.
Please remember about manumatic mode: The gear showing on the dash is ONLY THE HIGHEST GEAR the transmission will shift into, it is NOT THE GEAR YOU ARE IN. When you use this mode, you are essentially limiting the shift point to a HIGHER RPM. If you are in first (1 on the dash), for example, the trans will stay in first until you upshift. It will stay in first right up through the rev limiter. If you start off in 5th (5 on the dash), it will shift normally up through the gears starting with 1st until you reach 5th gear, THEN it stays in 5th until the limiter since there is no higher gear.
So put it in Manumatic mode, upshift to 5th, and leave it alone. The lag is magically gone.
Thanks other posters for this cure. It seems you didn't know how the tranny reallly works in this mode and so were only using it for a fix when you were racing in the mid gears.
