Exhaust System Routing - What was Toyota Thinking?

Just curious how other owners feel about the way the exhaust system looks .

Does anyone know why Toyota routed the exhaust the way they did. The way the pipe hangs underneath the car (back the the muffler) looks like the design Engineers forgot to take into consideration a clean way to route the pipe when designing the under carriage. Considering the quality Toyota puts into this quality it amazes me that the exhaust looks the way it does. I appreciate the fact that they kept the pipe as straight as possible to reduce restrictions but come on.

Thoughts?

I noticed that in my old 99 Camry. I was hoping that Toyota would change the way the exhaust is routed, but I guess not. :-?

It always looks like a kid installed it and used a small pipe and forgot some hangers.

There is loads of heat shielding, even back by the rear wheels.

If you get up under there, though, you will see there is PLENTY of room for a bigger aftermarket pipe.

So Iam waiting for that. 8)
