ECU swap... need some input

ECU swap... need some input

Postby SC V6 » Thu Oct 07, 2004 11:55 am

Since I have done the Tranny swap I have decided that I should swap the ecu... I was going to origionally but the ECU I got didn't have the transponder Key w\ it so I couldn't turn the car over...

FINALLY after 3 months of searching I found a 99 manual ECU V6 w\ a key... now the question is... I have my ecu w\ 2 keys w\ that code on it... I want to make sure I still keep one key w\ my origional ecu code on it...

now would this work..

If I put the new ecu in, and program just one of the two keys to the new ecu setting, then swap back to the auto ecu and program the key, that came w\ the manual ecu, to the auto code.. then I could keep that extra key w\ the auto code right?

then of course swap back to the manual ECU and run that..

the 2 keys that I have, one is under the dash for my automatic start... and the other I use to drive...

so would this work theoretically? I want to make sure I keep the code from my auto ecu just incase...

what do u guys/girls think?

sorry for the long post

The transponder actually broadcasts a signal... (assuming the same system is used at lexus) so you can use your old key with the other key nearby to bypass the transponder signal...

I have the instructions to program the key if you need it... but it actually is really goofy... involves opening and closing the door, pressing lock/unlock switches and the gas pedal - lol

yeah I read an older topic that said u insert the orig.. then hit the gas5 times, the break 6 times, remove orig. and insert new. hit gas once and wait till light quits flashing... then remove and hit the break.. and it should be programmed.. I think theoretically this should work.. shouldn't be too hard... I just have to trick the ecu a bit.. ill post my results when I get done on friday

yeah I re thought this and im positive this will work.. unless something outragious happens... I guess this means bye bye traction control.. unless the manual ECU has the traction control system inside of it already... u know what I mean??

like the ecu is generally made w\ everything.. but the reason it doesn't work is cause the wiring isn't run physically inside the car... so maybe ill still have it?!?!?!? its a possibility... ill let everyone know friday

got the update.. I got the column and the ecu and took it home to get started... after I got the new ECU in, my Airbag light went off.. for no reason at all.. so I tried to re-program the keys that I have keyed to my locks.. and of course.. the key that they gave me is a VALET key.. so it won't work.. in the process of getting my money back.. waht a waste of time
