Bartos,
I'll refer you back to my comment where I suggested that if they cut you a check for more or at least not less than you feel you car is worth that you should smile and accept the cheque. At $17,000, I'm guessing you must be smiling a lot! It's rare for an insurance company (that makes a profit) to make a habit of overpaying, but, unless you also own stock in that insurance company, I'd suggest you just cash their cheque and enjoy shopping for your new car.

i wonder what the ladies insurance premiums will be like upon renewal.

as for your $17000 check here is what id do

take 5000 put it down on a lease I know you guys in the states get great finacing on lease rates, then take the 12000 left over put 1000 in a savings acount put another 1000 in a chequing account put the rest of the loot in a high intrest savings accound like ING direct or GIC ( garanteed intrest certificate) basically if you can get a better return intrest rate than the lease intrest rate your cruising.

Heres what it will do:

1 you will have a 10000 bounty in the bank makin money for you !

2 it will improve your credit

3 the 5000 down will give you a decent lease monthly payment

4 when the lease is over take out your money from the bank and buy out the vehicle.

5 the thousand in the savings is nice to have for a rainy day eg a car accident

6 use the 1000 in your chequing so you always know you have enough $$$ to do what ever you need to do.

OR put some of that $$ into a car and pay off any debts to high intrest rate credit cards ect while you have the change if you have any debts at all.
