snow tire recommendations for Solara

Given the current delivery timeframe on our SLE convertible, I'd like to get opinions / suggestions on snow tires for a gen 2 camry solara.

What are folks using ??

I've been using NOKIAN WR tires on one of my other cars (heavy RWD 2-door Benz E-class) -- http://www.nokiantyres.com/passengercar ... =NOKIAN+WR
-- for the last 2 winters and they are GREAT winter-capable all-weather tires.

On another car (Miata) I run Bridgestone Blizzaks on steel wheels.

Also -- steel wheels or OE wheels ??

Thanks -- Manuel

Depends on what state you live in and how much snow you get. I'm in NY and the safety features of my SLE negate the need for snow tires for me. Last winter, I felt the traction control and stability control take over often and that gave me more confidence driving in the snow with the OEM tires. I felt no need for snow tires. But if you are in a climate with much more snow, go for Blizzaks I guess.

Depends on how good the OEM tires are. I live in Chicago, where some snow/icing happens, but its more the lowered temps that reduce the working grip of your "typical" all-weather tire. From my experience, most reasonable-performance tires do NOT do that well in the winter...

In the end the electronic aids (VSC/etc ) will definitely help, but ultimately the compound/tread pattern can give you better physical grip.

so the earlier Gen 1-1.5 tires are NOT good ( http://www.zer0.info/solaraguy/viewtopic.php?t=12401 )

And the current Gen 2 tires are "OK" for winter use ??

From another thread ( http://www.zer0.info/solaraguy/viewtopic.php?t=12596 ):
Bridgestone Turanza EL42 is the stock tire for the '04 Solara SLE V6
- said to be "really crappy tires"
