Who Has Changed Speakers?

Postby ZXLNT » Fri Jun 25, 2004 9:43 am

I'll agree on the 99 JBL system I was quite impressed with it when I first heard it. I ran the stock speakers for a while with just my Clarion HU and trutfully the factory radio sounded better than the Clarion did. Or it had more punch at least. Not sure it sounded better maybe just played louder.. Lol..

I will just continue to suffer through the crappy sound until these companies are able to develope stock replacements. My bf's brother is an installer at Best Buy too, so gonna ask him when we go to visit next month.

yah i changed out my speakers, infiniti 6x9s all around... but dampening in with them, but forgot to change out the wiring but it'll be a while b4 i plan on putting an amp to the speakers. i have my alpine amp still jist sitting here because i havent decided to wait for the kit or do custom and have tweeters installed into the dash as well.

as far as a radio replacement a kit, it isnt going to be out for another few months. best buy and circuit city dont do custom installs around here so i'm guessing none of them do. the only store that i know that does actual custom work is sound advise (whos owned by a big audio/video guru, but i forgot who, so the name may be diff where you all are).

What was the model of the speakers you used? Did you have any issues with the depth on the door speakers? I've heard that the mounting depth is pretty shallow...if the magnet is too deep you can't roll the windows all the way down.

You were smart to go ahead & used a dampener when you did your speakers...did you use dynamat extreme?

sup guys..i FINALLY just finished my system a few days ago. In the front changed the tweeters to rockfordfosgate fanatics.. and 6x9 infiniti references(3 way). In the back I replaced the speakers with 6x9 infiniti kappas(3 ways also). As far as the brackets, you can just use the old brackets in front, BUT your gonna have to break and remove the old speakers(if you dont care). THe sound's great. If your asking why I didnt use infiniti kappas in front as well, its because the magnet was so damn large, it kept my window from going down(haha). My next mod is to dynomat my rear and front doors.

Thanks man! Can you post a DYI on how you removed the door panels & rear deck? I've been waiting for Crutchfield to database our car so I could get their instructions...doesn't look like they're ever gonna do it.

hum, i donno much about sound system. but what i found out is that, i think it's good for u to change "head unit' 1st. cause usually factory speakers r ok; they r not really junks. the head unit is the problem here, cause factory ALWAYS put cheap head unit...

my bro had 03 Camry, and i had 01 accord b4. we didn't change any speaker, but we changed head unit. the sound quailty DID IMPROVED a lot. well, if u still think the bass is too weak after u change head unit? then add a sub. that's what i did~ ^^ it works really well. (the only time u have to worry of changing speaker is when ur aftermarket head unit blown them.)

for head unit. i like pionner for no reason. i think it's a good company and that's what i had on my accord, just kinda too expensive; facny Sony is pretty good too, just too common on the streets; alpine? hum, i don't like their style ^^;; overly too fancy for me; and kenwood is cool too, but i don't like their style too.

i guess "brand" for the speaker, is not that big deal. as long as u know the company, then it should be fine. i guess it's better if the manufactor same as ur head unit (another reason why i suggest u buy head unit first.), cause the whole system probably sounds better.

i donno, i'm not expert in speakers, it just my personal suggestion. correct me if my suggestion is not cool or wrong~ ^^

As far as my head unit, I'm still debating if I want to even change it, since our head unit is so big. Changing it might take off that slick smooth look to it. For the rear speakers, I tried taking it to my dealership, and of course they said that all speakers do that. So instead, I took of the panel and added a couple layers of double sided tape on the edge of the lower panel, so that the panel stopped hitting the window. That crazy rattling has stopped, and my only problem is my sub rattling my trunk. :x Hopefully it'll sound even better with the dampening.

Speaker Brackets

Postby 2004whitesolara » Wed Oct 27, 2004 8:43 pm

Does anyone know what speaker brackets to get for the 6x9 rear speakers before I tear it all apart?
Also, what brackets can be used for the front 6.5s instead of tearing apart the factory ones.
I got Infinity Reference speakers to put in all around.
Thanks.

Is there a replacement head unit out there that will work with the stearing wheel controls? Otherwise what's the point of having a car with that convenience if it's shot out? It's like taking a step forward and two back in my opinion.
If no unit can do that, then will changing the speakers and adding an amp do the trick? I want to thump but I want to have the horns and whistles that came with the car and I paid for to work!!
