TRD spring noise

TRD spring noise

Postby CJSblackbeauty » Tue Sep 13, 2005 6:18 pm

I just had my TRD springs installed this evening on my 06 Solara Convertible by my local dealership to find out that whenever I make a turn at low speeds or go over bumps I hear a low clunk sound up front . My mechanic said the front springs are touching /hitting each other thus causing the clunk. He said this is not normal and that the insulator does not cover all the coils. I am very upset not to mention disapointed that a quality product such as TRD would have this problem. I have contacted Toyotaparts4u about this and is awaiting a call back tomorrow. They have offered to replace the springs but I am afraid the problem will still be there.
I have read threads that many of you with the TRD springs are also having this problem. Should I have gone with the Eibach instead?

Please help!

That's odd... My front passenger side coils were touching for a while as well... but I had a leaking strut (not the cars fault), and when it was replaced the coils were alligned and fine... There are several threads talking about the popping / chirping / rubbing noise comming from TRD springs... especially on the SE and SLE models (SE Sport has upgraded struts from the other two models, and handles the springs better). Even then, some of the SE Sports on here have been having that problem... Anyhow, you're not alone, keep at them and make sure they replace them / fix them... whatever it takes to make it right.

Unfortunately my car is brand new with only 200 miles. How about you guys with Eibach springs? Do you have any problems? I am almost thinking the TRD springs have softer coils and may try eibachs.

Eibach manufactures the springs for TRD, they are one in the same.

so do you just think I should take up toyotaparts4u offer and try out another set? Could I have just gotten a defective set? I anticipate they will be paying for my labor.

I would give it a shot if they are paying for the labor... I know it's a pain in the ass, but it's better to go through it and get it done correctly... If it comes out the same way, I'd have a third party take a look at them and see what they think... The way they are seated may also have something to do with it, so make sure you're taking it to a decent shop (it's not a hard job to do, just gotta make sure they take the time and do it right).

I'm having the same problem and I have 04 SE Sport.
Don't know what to do.

I just emailed TRD Customer Service.

Hi

I purchased a set of TRD springs for my 04 Solara SE Sport and the spring coils are rubbing against each other. I have research this problem with other owners and a lot of them are also having the same problem. Here is a link of a Solara Gen 2 forum talking about the problem http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php? ... rd+springs . Have TRD received any complaints regarding this problem, if so what is TRD planning to do about it. If this is the firts time hearing about please research the springs. This is my first TRD product purchase and my decision to purchase was due to quality. Hope TRD takes care of this problem, because I still would like to remain a client.
Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciate it. Hope to get a respond regarding this issue.

Thank
Raymond G - 04 Solara SE Sport owner

From the information I got from my dealer the front springs are not very strong thus making the coils touch. The springs came with insulators but not enough to cover every coil so therefore you still get the touching.

For those that bought the Eibachs, are you having this problem? I know it is the same spring, but I am curious. I know Eibach makes quality springs so I am surprised the TRD ones have a problem. Does anyone have a number for TRD?

This is exactly why I tore out the entire suspension and installed TEIN SS. I wish I would of done it right the first time. Not only is the ride improved, 100%+++, but the suspension doesn't even make a whisper.

this is what the front spring looks like from my car. the insulation isnt on all of the spring its only on the botom portion. i've heard from a few people that they have the same noise so its a common problem. i've tried tightening the shocks but it doesnt do anything.

I agree with you regarding the TEIN SS, but not everyone can afford $1200. I can't afford $1200 I though that TRD quality was good but it makes you think again.

Question: I understand the Eibach makes springs for TRD and then there are just regular Eibach springs. Does anyone have just the regular Eibach springs?...and if so, do they have the same issue with front end noise that the TRD (made for TRD by Eibach) springs have? My husband spoke with a rep from Eibach and he confirmed they make a spring for TRD but it is a different spring rate than the Eibach spring that Eibach sells directly for the 04+ Solara. We're just trying to figure out if I should stick with the TRD springs or just change to the regular Eibach springs... I love the look of my car, but the noise is driving me crazy!

Chris Clutch has a set of Eibachs, along with a few other people on the site... Chris has been swamped lately with his studio and stuff, so he's not checking the site as often as he used to... Hopefully he or someone else can get back to you with an answer in reasonable time.
