I already posted some KS comments in another thread, but for a quick summary of my experience:
1. The original knock sensors seem to blow a lot easier than OEM replacement ones. Replacements must be built tougher because under the same conditions they don't usually break unless the knock is severe.
2. The KS are there for a reason, which is to allow maximum advance for better power, but to sense knock and let the ECU know to retard the timing to maximize power and at the same time prevent engine damaging and power robbing knock.
3. Some people advocate using a different sensor or relocating sensors but that will prevent the system from working properly, and may be very risky on S/C cars. There is some discussion about the S/C itself causing "noise" that is not knock "noise that causes unnecessary power robbing timing retard and that it may be prevented by running both sensor inputs off one non-effected sensor, but I am sceptical as my car does not seem to be affected. I currently run the KS system as stock.
4. Even with full ECU timing retard, many people have broken their pistons with too much boost, not enough fuel, too high compression or heat, or some combination. If you have to go over 6 psi boost you had better lower compression, and have proper fuel delivery.
