Hi I'm new to the Toyota world and just got my first solara it's the v6 sle model I was wanting to sc it but I saw that you can use different pulley sizes I wanted to know if I use a 2.00 pulley it says max boost will be 10psi can stock internals handle that and can the automatic transsmision handle that or would it be better to do the manual trassmision swap? thanks

You will need to do ALOT of upgrades if you want to run 10psi. 5psi is the max you want to run on stock settings. Anything above that you will want to upgrade your fuel pump, get the Jim’s fuel mod, new injectors, get a Apexi Neo, Hell a E-Manage would not hurt, and you will want to strengthen your internals. Running 10psi will have a hefty price tag behind it, but if you have the dough, I’d go for it. But if you want some more info, there are tons of topics about this. Do a quick search and you will find all you need to know about what you are asking about :)

even at 5psi, ur gonna want to have the fuel pump. The stock fuel pump was a joke, the injectors on the other hand, arnt that bad...

an 10psi on stock internals, with this much volume, is crazy talk.

start researching now....by the time you can find a TRD s/c, you should have all the answers you need.

speaking from a practical point of view: do the tranny swap first. the parts will be more forthcoming, and you don't have to worry about building up internals yet. by the time you get around to having the tranny done, you should probably have found a s/c by then.

and while you're getting the tranny done, you can find all the other parts needed for a s/c: fuel system stuff, a/f tuner, engine internals, etc.

btw, what background do you have with forced induction? were you driving another s/c car before the solara? are you planning on doing the s/c install and tuning yourself? do you have friends or something that work in a shop?

if this is your first foray into f/i, then you should probably worry about finding the s/c first. secondly, you should worry about making sure the s/c is in good usable condition (since they're discontinued), and third, make sure you're not going to blow up your engine when you install it (i.e. run the stock 5.5 pulley at first, because the stock internals can handle that). after these three things have been accomplished, THEN start considering upping the boost, and building up the engine internals.

btw, i doubt the auto slushbox could handle 10psi, so if you were to do the s/c first, you'd be doing the tranny alongside it anyway.

^^^good advice from Chinky, but just to clear up, the stock pulley on the sc is 4psi, not 5.5. 5.5 is an upgraded pulley

this will be my first toyta build and f/i build I got a buddy with a shop so i got alot of tools at my finger tips. I guess I'll do the fuel pump this weekend and start searching for that tranny and parts. 10psi will be my goal but i guess I'll have to start out low and work my way up.

...after a few more decades of experience, you'll notice that there are little "tells" that give away some interesting details about the speaker's competence, experience, background, age, etc.
There are some here.
