I brought my car into the dealer for correction of the throttle lag problem at 2:00 PM on 7/13. I gave the service manager a written description of the problem (dangerous throttle lag during heavy acceleration from a stop, etc.) and made NO mention of the TSB.

At 7:35 PM I got a call that my car was ready. I asked the service manager what was done and he connected me to the service tech who (eventually after a lot of B.S.) told me that they had reset the ECU. I told him (now that I am totally frustrated and pi$$ed-off) that an ECU reset isn’t going to fix the problem (and he knows it!) and the ECU needs to be re-flashed with the new software as per TSB TC006-05. He proceeds to tell me that their computers have been going down all day (true) and he can’t access the TSB on the computer. He connected me back to the service manager so I can complain some more. I got a ride to the dealership and delivered my own copy of TSB TC006-05 to the service manager, and left at 8:45 PM in a loaner car (along with his profuse apologies). At 11:12 PM I got a call from the service manager that the ECU has (finally, really) been re-flashed and I’m good to go.

I’ve been driving the car for 2 days now and the change is just as everyone else here has described. Throttle lag is gone! From a 10-15 mph roll, you can nail the pedal and lay a patch (even with my wider AM tires). Transmission shift program is far quicker and more aggressive with downshifts. I expect a bit more improvement with time as the ECU re-learns my driving style.

They shouldn't be replacing the glass anymore. The assembly is what gets replaced now.

Power Toyota Tempe

Postby FLUXEMAG » Fri Jul 15, 2005 3:36 pm

With TSB in hand, I hinted at my problems so they could find it first. They told me to come back the next day, but my appointment was for that day and I had already taken off work.

After demanding the service supervisor, I busted out the lag TSB and he personally checked in my car in his white shirt and tie. Two hours later I had my btch back and proceeded to test the throttle in the drive. Two notes about burnouts: In arizona when the temp is 115F and the road is 150, peeling out is not easy. Also, if you have MT there is no reason that the car can't peel out to begin with. With 5AT SS, my car does not spin the tires still, but it chirps them. I'll try in the cool 90F morning air on cold tires.

As for the J61X execution code update for the tranny lag, I'm satisfied now.

please help... got lag tsb done... didn't work

Postby SOLARAGUY029 » Fri Jul 15, 2005 5:34 pm

Hi Guys, Hope you can help me out. I got the TSB done and my print out says they did TC005-05 (doesnt say TC005-05) I drove it out of the parking spot and noticed no difference from a complete stop then punched the pedal at 20 mph and still seems kinda hessitant. On top of that my automatic windows dont roll down automatically anymore. Are these thing related at all... any other ideas?

Are you sure it didn't say TC006-005? That's the correct TSB for our car's lag. No relation between this TSB and auto windows. Bring it back and make sure windows are fixed and TC006-005 has been applied by them. Good luck.

They disconnected your battery to perform the flash and forgot to recalibrate your auto window... Starting with your window all the way up, roll it down all the way till it stops, then up all the way till it stops (repeat this three times). Try your auto again... Sunroof recalibration is the same procedure. You are basically reteaching the computer the proper range...

lag issue with wrong tsb applied

Postby SOLARAGUY029 » Sat Jul 16, 2005 5:26 am

Thanks for the quick reply....yea i checked my receipt again and it does say TC005-005. I looked it up and it is the ecm calibration for the camary not the solara. Do you guys think that this makes a difference even though both cars are similar.

lag tsb

Postby SOLARAGUY029 » Sat Jul 16, 2005 6:36 am

Just spoke with the dealer again they said they applied the TC006-05 solara tsb even though the recept states the TC005-05 was applied. When I test drove it I noticed no difference from before especially starting from a complete stop. If it was applied correctly should I have felt it as soon as i was pulling out of the parking spot?

As far as I recall, there was no "lag" from a dead stop. Do you notice crisper shifting in traffic? That's where you would notice lag when punching the accelerator.

Well they said they ordered new glass and the invoice said "TSB applied" so maybe they did both.. either way, no more rubbing.. its great. It almost seems like a magic trick because it is so much more quiet.

I'll bet that they just disconnected the battery as a quick way to RESET the ecu not flash it with the new software. I would have them reflash it.

I have throttle lag in my 2006 Solara. Is there a way I can find out if the new ECU flash has been applied to my car?
