Well, I wanted to go with 18's....BUT...I want max performance as well. Anytime you INCREASE the weight of the wheel, you LOOSE performance (acceleration). 2-3 Lbs of UNSPRUNG weight (per wheel) is probably worth 100lbs of sprung weight total..that's a tenth or two. Not to mention the increase in INERTIA (to get the ball rolling). I know 18's look great, but I think I'm going to 17s. You also have the factor of ride quality/rim damage with lower profile on the 225/40 (18") vs 225/45 (17").

Here's the wheel I'm looking at (on sale too):

Those are nice Rims!
You can put 225/45/18 on the 18's also.

17s are also cheaper :D . i ended up gettin 17s for my gen4 but i got ones where teh spokes went all the way to the edge of the rim so they looked bigger then they were. but i liked the look and many dont.

Thanks...I only paid $168 each on a clearance sale...they normally go for at least $50 more!

I usually prefer 17's on our cars, 18's can look too big IMO. Also, I think the tire sizes you're talking about can weigh ~20-25 so you should take that into consideration too. If you want performance wheels, I'd suggest looking into Volks, Ray's, Advans etc if you have the money. If you want really light weight rims, maybe try some Konig Heliums or Motegi Tracklites.

Those rims weigh 19.8 lbs...not bad, since *most* wheels that size (17X7.5) weigh 21-22 lbs.

Just a piece of advise. If they are on clearance because they are being discontinued, then buy an extra incase you mess one wheel up. This happened to me and its a pain and a piece of mind to have a backup.

I like them! Go with the 18's

Personally, 18's are the perfect size for the gen 1 for looks. I am going to change back from my 18x8 MB Rev rims to stock 05 avalon wheels 8 spoke, powdercoated black. I want a little better ride, a little performance gain, hopefully better hydroplaning resistance and cheaper tires. Just hoping that my ericsol bbk fits in the 17's.
