3 weeks ago my car dies, buy a new battery and new terminals

The following week my CHECK ENGINE light comes on

The next the TRAC OFF light comes on

This week, I jump in my car, turn the key, radio turns on but no engine. :(

I wait a while, do it again, it obviously has juice (new battery). After a few minutes......I try again, viola, it starts.

Could it be the starter? Alternator?

Sounds like the alternator is trying to tell you something. Have it checked out.

the trac off comes on whenever your cel comes on, did you ever check the code? my car did this ONCE where i turned the key and it did nothing. my guess is a gear or "tooth" on the starter somehow missed? and didn't turn over. so maybe check the starter. If alternators charge batteries, and your battery was fully charged, wouldn't that kind of cancel out the starting issue? how old was your old battery?
are avalons supposed to be this fast?

Get a starter, quick! your starter is about to go. Mine started to act up like that until the last start where the starter just kept cranking and it burned itself out. Its happened to others here too, not only me. It doesn't hurt to check your alternator but I'm almost certain its your starter as those are the symptoms of a faulty starter.

It's weird, it only does this when It hasn't been started for many hours. After that, I can drive all day making multiple stops without starting issues. I'm definitely going to bring it in to get checked, just want to be completely informed (so I don't get screwed over). I just have to find a day off to do so.

How much do alternators cost for our cars? I remember for a Civic I had, the alternator cost near $500 at the time. And reading from the other starter post, those can be rebuilt.

This happened to me as well.

Verbatim. Until it started cranking and the only thing that would stop it was disconnecting the battery.

I would guess your starter.

Never rebuild a starter, anymore it's more cost effective to buy a reman'd unit.
Trust me, I'm a technician.
