just had them both tested and passed at Autozone.

Theres nothing wrong with straight pipe, less resistance in the exhuast=more outflow in the exhuast cycle, and more incoming air in the intake cycle. This all amounts to more power. Plus its really not that loud at all. I have the same setup only I put a tip on mine:
