i think she's bleeding...

Postby x61485x » Tue Feb 17, 2009 1:07 pm

i feel like i've neglected the lara ever since i got my new car...
she's just been sittin getting jealous everytime i cruise off in the new ride...
i broke her heart, and now she's bleedin...
...
...
just kidding. (no homo)

actually i think she's leaking. every time i turn her on i get the smell of burnt something (oil?), especially when i turn on the heater. Once i turned her over after not driving for a while and the exhaust smoke was kind of thick.
Drove her around a couple days ago on an errand and it was okay. no thick smoke from the exhaust and the smell wasn't too bad if i didn't turn on the heater.

i'm planning on taking her get checked but the G is sucking all the $$$ outta my wallet. so she'll just rest until i can bring her into my mechanic.

any suggestions guys?

Do you park near any trees? if so, pull off the cowl and check for leaves

i do park near trees... but the biggest problem there i think is the sap.

in any case, checking the cowl couldn't hurt.

noob question: what/where is the cowl.

its the plastic piece just below your window... It has small vents where the ac pulls air in.

yeah, i don't need two cars, and I have been trying to sell the lara, but I don't want to sell her with a whole bunch of problems. Not only does it decrease the value of the car, but also I just wouldn't feel right selling the car with some crazy issues. what if she goes up in flames after i sell her? :o

thanks for the pointers on the cowl, i'll try to take her apart tonight and have a looookseee

does it smell like burning oil? how is your oil level?

does it smell like coolant? because if its when the heater is on it make me think something more with a coolant issue?

JEEZ

WHERE DO YOU PARK THE HELICOPTER AND YOUR SUBMARINE?!?!

haha just kiddin man...
i can understand that, believe it or not, some days i get kidna sick of driving the G. Dont' get me wrong, I love the car, but I don't always feel like driving like a jet fighter ( or feeling all the little bumps and potholes in the road).

I miss cruisin around in the auto 'lara. Unfortnately those days may be gone soon. She's goin to the mechanic for a checkup and then possible buyers comin to take a look on Sunday.

Wish us luck fellas

ok so i finally cleaned out all the leaves on the cowl, and opened up the hood to try and find what the smell was. To my surprise, the car was actually smoking. It was a thin white smoke coming from the throttle body.

Then I remembered my idiot friend tried to 'clean' it for me a while back. He used some sort of spray cleaner and a toothbrush. That's been the only time the tube has come off. Could that be it? or could it realy be leaking oil? Btw, even when i turn the heater off the car still smokes and smells bad.

do you mean that the valve covers are leaking?

If that is the case and you actually want to keep the car make sure they take a look at the spec. on the valve clearances. They usually don't need to be adjusted, but since the top of the engine is off anyways...

This is also a good chance to learn about motors by getting to take one apart, since you have another car you drive mostly. Unless you're not comfortable doing that kind of work, which is understandable.
