TRD Supercharger Installed!!

Postby Solarizona » Mon Aug 04, 2008 5:17 pm

I finally got the time to get the supercharger installed over the weekend. Damn, what a difference. The car should have been like this from the factory. It is so much more responsive and doesn't seem to run out of breath at higher rpm's. I also had a B&M tranny cooler installed at the same time. So far it's running great with zero problems. That whine is addicting so I'm guessing the first couple tanks will go pretty quick.

I initially had the EBC installed and the technician kept telling not to install it 'cause it's not as fun. He was definitely right about that. With the EBC, it felt like the supercharger was hardly working. I drove it around with it installed then took it back to have him take it out. The difference is very noticeable, so I kept the EBC out. I did mention cutting boost between shifts and no boost in first gear to prevent damage to tranny. He insisted that I wouldn't have a problem with the tranny especially with the tranny cooler installed. He has a Camry that been supercharged for 5 years with no EBC and never had a problem. He said to just change the tranny oil every 15k miles, and if I was still worried about it just take it easy in first gear. Anyway, I LOVE the supercharger. I'll be taking some video probably this weekend. In the meantime, here's some pics.

With the ebc out of the car..u have to be very carefull with boost in first gear...dont slam it off the line all the time, once in a while is okay, but its too much for the first and second gears over time.

and by what Tony told me, the 1st gear to 2nd gear transistion is very very important to keep it easy on...

Have fun!

did u re-route ur vaccume lines since the ebc is out?

Yeah, the technician even mentioned that. He said something about a sprag or drag between 1st and 2nd. I don't really remember exactly what he said other than take it easy in 1st to 2nd.

I think he did since it took a little while to uninstall the EBC.

Haha, I'll bet. Not sure if I'll end up raising the boost. I'm pretty much done spending money on the car. I'll start saving for the M3 now - figure when I'm bored with this I should have a very good down payment

be careful with boost, its a nice power adder but make sure your car can take it. Too much too soon leads to kaboom! It auto applications its even more important to watch how its driven because of the rare cases when the transmission doesnt wanna downshift and you are WOT with the motor taking all the load. Knock sensors usually go first. Congrats and have fun

My recent post about my spun rod bearing has made that an incredibly valid point.
