Well, over the past two weekends, I finally got the chance to install my supercharger that I bought last summer. Over the past year, I was collecting parts, like the alternator bolt (thanks, dawgz) and figuring out how to make the auto egr tube work on my 5 sp car.
It took me about 20 hours for the install. The most difficult part was changing the egr cooler on the block for one designed for an auto transmission. This egr cooler swap alone took me 4 hours. There was no space to work in as the shifter cables made it very difficult to get my fingers and even more difficult to get a wrench in there. Also, I did all the worked by myself.
Thankfully, the car started right up and I didn't even get a check engine light. My car is all stock with the exception of Dats y-pipe. I am running the standard pulley, 4 psi. I also have a 5.5 psi pulley that the previous owner provided, but I will wait till I get fuel upgrades in.
It's rewarding to get this project done, as I haven't wrenched on a car in about 10 years (I am an engineer turned finance guy). Once I eventually get the next set of mods done, anybody have suggestions for tuning in the NJ/NY/CT area?

Thanks for the photobucket site.

I've said it before, but I feel your pain with the egr cooler install. I'd pull the s/c 10 times before doing the cooler swap. Too bad I'm about to do it again... _________________

Nice, welcome to the SC club.
Next time you can probably do it in under 5 hours, haha. It gets easier each time. _________________ Cars worked on:

I probably won't have all of the other mods on in time for your tuning session. Let me know if you go again after August. |

Thanks to everyone on this site. I probably wouldn't have been able to do this install without all of the great information on this site.
After driving it for a couple of days, the car is more responsive and does not run out of breathe after 4,000 rpms. We'll see how bad my gas mileage gets hit. Before the install, I was really taking it easy and was getting 24 mpg (even got 400 miles on a tank). |
