Steering wheel clicks when I turn

Steering wheel clicks when I turn

Postby DGPZ » Mon Dec 24, 2007 11:35 pm

Hello

I have a problem with my 06 Solara V6, that Iam hoping you guys can help me with.

Recently I have been hearing a faint rub/clicking noise when I turn my steering wheel

Its not the CV/Boot type noise you would hear at the wheels.

Its more of a slight rub/click noise at the steering column...has anyone here experianced this? Any feedback appreciated...Merry Christmas!

Welcome!

I have not had that happen to me. I suggest taking it in for warranty service. Hopefully yours is not up, like mine :D

My 04 did the same thing. I took it in and complained- they had to replace the entire steering column- this is a known problem. It took them a couple of days to repair mine. I'll look for the paperwork as to the exact problem- not sure if I have it anymore since I dont have the car anymore.

My friend had the same problem with an 07. She took it in and they replaced the entire steering column not once but twice. There was something they didn't do the first time and the second time the service manager said he knew what the problem was and had them fix the problem. No sound after the second time. I do not know what the exact problem was.

Thanks for the responses

Looking at the sticky, I'm not sure which TSB it is. I will, however take it the dealer after new years to see what they can do.

HID04V6 - If you happen to still have your paperwork and know what the problem is, let me know so I can properly tell them.

I dont want to have one of those moments where you bring it the dealer...and the car acts perfect

Dropped off the car this morning, told them about the noise...and the TSB

Got a call back about 4 hours later, saying that they replaced the intermediate steering shaft.

They pull out my car when i get there...didnt recogize it first because it was so clean. I just drove through the sierras this weekend..so it was all brown and dirty from the snow.

free fix and carwash...awesome!

Thanks for the help guys

Mine had to be replaced 2 different times before they got it right. They also had to replace a bunch of components that are involved with the VSC system, because they destroyed them when taking the steering column out. After they fixed it though, it was great!
