The kit me and JoeB have been working on is done, he has done all of testing of the MAF and had great results. I'll let him chime in later the success he had on this upgrade. The kit is set up for those running the Injen intake with the UPFD extension. The stock maf is removed and replaced with an aluminum block off plate. The TT maf is then placed on the end of the Injen intake requiring 4.25" of your cold air extension to be removed. IF your running the bigger injectors this MAF upgrade is a great option for fine tuning your car on the top end With the upgrade JoeB has reported to me the best fuel curve he has ever seen. For those guys that plan on tuning your car with a wideband o2 on the dyno or on the street, the TT maf upgrade will enable you to tune your hi throttle fuel map very smoothly and you wont have to trim massive amounts of fuel on your SAFC or FTC, tuning with the factory Maf and bigger injectors has become a problem for many members, requiring them to trim -30% to -50% fuel at some points in there curve.

i knew such a kit would come out eventually. our MAF is just too big.

either that. or i would go for a custom HKS VPC unit. it would be a bit more money after the fab and tune, but considerably worth it.

I wish I understood the science behind this. I will have to research.

So is the issue that our MAF unit is inferior to the Supra's?

What does it matter that the size of the Solara MAF is larger than the Supra MAF?

The Supra MAF is larger guys! Its able to measure more airlfow. Some guys running 6psi are maxing out there MAF , in turn not letting them take adavantage of the bigger supra injectors.

Hmmm, sorry ahead of time, I know I will ramble on for this topic .

With the stock MAF and 318cc injectors running 6psi of boost, I had to adjust my SAFC2 down pretty far to get the A/F adjusted properly. Even after those adjustments, I had spots in the low to mid 5000 rpm range and right up near red-line that I could not adjust properly. The A/F would dip down to like 11:1 and I could not lean it out no matter what I did. I noticed the problem then but I wasn't as worried about it back then and frankly wasn't exactly sure what was limiting the adjustment.

Recently, Gabe sent me a link to some info that he found that suggests that when you upgrade to larger injectors, you should upgrade your MAF to match them (the 2 work together ans should be sized proportionally). It made complete sense and I had thought that was the problem. I was just discussing the same thing with another contact when Gabe sent the article. GMAN was kind enough to get the wiring schematics for me so I put together a very good wiring diagram with instructions and pictures on how to rewire the Supra TT MAF to work in our car.

Admitedly, my case is an extreme example since I am running 370cc injectors and a 2.2" sc pulley but I had trouble even when I was running 6psi. So just to answer a few questions you might be asking:

1-Q) Can I put this on my stock 1MZ-FE and get massive power gains to blow away my friends WRX?

1-A) NO! The only people I think that should be considering this are people that have supercharged their car and are pushing greater than 5psi and have installed >300cc injectors and have a piggy-back to tune A/F. The real test is if you have tuned your car and found spots that you cannot control the A/F with your piggy-back computer, it is likely solved with this.

2-Q) I have all the above, can I install this on my car and not get a check engine light without tuning it?

2-A) Highly unlikely. Whenever you are doing upgrades to the A/F flow of your engine, you should always tune it properly. The Supra TT MAF seemed to go VERY well with my 370cc injectors. Most of my trims are right on "0". However, at idle, my trims are at around -45% because the injectors are so large. That alone would be enough for a CEL, just idling. On the high end, you might not get a CEL but if you don't tune it properly with a WBO2 sensor, you could lean it out and damage the motor.

3-Q) Can I install this myself?

3-A) Absolutely. If you installed the CAI, you can definitley do this. The trickiest part is re-wiring the connector but I wrote good instructions on how this is done and you don't even have to cut the wires!

4-Q) Why does it work better?

4-A) Because the stock MAF was designed for our engine with 200bhp. If you are currently getting close to 240fwhp, that is probably close to 300bhp, that is 150% more airflow than the stock engine was designed to manage. The MAF converts the air flow to voltage. Once it reaches that max voltage, it doesn't matter if you can force more air in, it cannot be measured and the engine won't handle it properly. The Supra TT MAF was designed to handle a much higher hp target and works very well in our supercharged application. It is also better matched for the injectors if you are running larger upgraded injectors making it better to tune.

5-Q) Are making money off this?

5-A) Not a dime! Gabe (trd4life) and I worked on this together with help getting the wiring diagrams from GMAN. I have no cost in this and am simply sharing with the community. I'm not sure how Gabe can sell the kits so cheap, he has great access to parts. The kit comes with everything plus instructions. If you wanted to buy the Supra TT MAF new, it would be around $600. -JoeB

The fuel trims obviously reveal that there is great benefit in this mod. But, there was one other question that I would like to know -> how did your car ride/feel after the new TT MAF was put on in terms of acceleration and idle?

The idle doesn't change. Going from the stock MAF to the Supra TT MAF, I didn't even have to change my fuel trims on the SAFC. Everything after idle definitely changed. Unfortunately, I can't say how much of my gains were from that mod and how much were from another change I made. I can tell you that when I went out for a test run, the wheels were spinning going into second gear with my automatic and 18" Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s! Not a chirp, SPINNING! I've never really had that kind of power on the very top end, it always seemed to go flat right before red-line. I'd like to think that a fair amount of the gain is because I was able to adjust for a slightly more aggressive A/F mixture on the top end but I can't say for sure how much gain was from which mod. One of the hazzards of doing more than 1 thing at a time (tuner's no-no). -JoeB

I haven't run on the dyno since the tranny swap, but Im pretty sure I won't run w\o the supra MAF then install it.. cause time is limited and expensive for dyno runs.. although I will take video of the runs.. hopefully to be doing this next weekend or the one after that..

This seems interesting. I've heard of people here upgrading their MAF sensor but I never knew how and this seems to be the answer.

Do you guys mind ellaborating a little more in the statement above? if i was to get this item, does it mean that I have to literally "cut" the extension?

oh and 1 more thing... do you guys only have a limited number of MAFs or can you pretty much put this kit together at anytime. I really want this, but i dont see myself being able to get it for a few months.
