pepboys intake (PICS INSIDE)

so was sitting at garage, decided to see if i can make a short ram from pepboy parts, turns out i made a short ram.cost about 70 bucks with filter and all

The brand of the parts I used is:
Spectre
here is the list of the parts I used with part numbers on the end

6" STraight Intake Tube PN 8718
Coupler Kit PN 8776
1Vacuum Sensor Adapter Kit PN 8711
Air Sensor Mount PN 8705
Cone Air Filter PN 9132

i left the bottom half of the stock intake box, and the ram air parts since the filter sits inside this box. works great, sounds great too. almost looks like the injen short ram and thats where i got the idea from, just thought i would share for those that did not want to spend almost 300 on a intake. :P

Pepboys does not sell an adapter for the gen 1 solara MAF. Only HKS has one.

Thanks for the great tutorial. I just did the same thing last evening to my 2005 V6 SLE. Hardest part was drilling the holes for the hoses and getting the melted plastic off - inserting the grommets - and getting the large hose on once on the car. I used a different Spectre air filter - the one that has the chrome on it.

I want to see if there is a 45 degree piece that I can add to try and get the filter down inside the box more for better cold air flow. Maybe rig some kind of tin foil shield - lol.

I disconnected my neg battery terminal while putting it on. Once installed I took the car out for a spin. For the first 3 minutes the car engine was knocking like crazy when I got on the gas. The computer was learning fast though and after a bit she was running like a top again. This morning on the way to work I noticed on the freeway that when I gassed it at around 70MPH she would very quickly kick down a gear and GO!!!

I told my wife last night the car now growls out of both ends - Just like me - haha.

Mods so far:
Magnaflow muffler - #14829
SRI/CAI PB Intake

Next - 18" wheels and tires

I'm loving this mod, thanks again.

Not sure what you mean. It is part number - Air Sensor Mount PN 8705. See the OP photos above. It plugs right in.

I guess that's what I meant - you just had to plug it in and you are good to go?
