AC question

Postby Grnarowana » Mon May 19, 2008 10:44 pm

It starting to heat up in SoCAL and I thought it might be time to rejuvenate my AC. I bought the car in 2003 and its a 1999. Since than I never charged the AC. How much would this run and where should i get it? Toyota, Jiffy Lube?

buy a haynes manual and a recharge kit. it's easy, unless you have a known refrigerant leak....in which case, i can't be helpful.

but if you're not actively leaking the freon, then just buy a charger at wal-mart or autozone, and then a haynes manual for the camry (also at autozone) and recharge it yourself.

it's not that hard (if you can put air in your tires, then you should be able to charge an A/C up).

total, for the manual, the charging hardware, and two cans of r134 refrigerant, it should only run you about $25-40 USD

the manual is really not necessary, but i figure you'd want it since you're only supposed to fill one of the two valves (i forget if it's the high pressure or the low pressure end, that you're supposed to fill).

Always charge/fill from the low side fitting.

If you have a 1999 Solara and the refidgerant is out, you likely have a leak. I'd have dye put in the system as well. Send a PM to GregTRD.
