corner and headlight removal?

corner and headlight removal?

Postby bullet3z » Mon Jan 07, 2008 8:28 pm

I have searched and I can not find what I need. I am attempting to remove my drivers side headlight because there is moisture in there and I need to clean and dry it out.

I can not see how to remove the corner light so I can get to the last 2 bolts that hold in the headlight. Can someone please post how to remove the lights. I checked the tutorial section but all they say is to remove the lights, not how to remove them.

don't forget to undo the bolts that hold the grill.

undo the 3 bolts that hold your grill in place, the grill connects with 2 tabbed clips on the bottom side. I just press them down with a flathead

Remove the corner from that 1 small screw, its really tiny so dont lose it.
when the screw is out, slide the corner towards you, as in, towards the front of the car. It should side out.
Now, behind the corner u should see 2 bolts, and there was 1 bolt on the topside of the headlight and 1 more under where the grill used to be, remove them all.
After you do that, the headlight should come out with some wiggling. I usually push the top part back and tilt it from the bottom out.

Id make a diagram with pix but its cold outside and im lazy

Mr Chunkz, that is the info I was looking for. But before you posted this I called someone and they gave me a few hints on getting the corner light out. That is what I was stuck on. That stupid light was hard to get out.

take a flathead, stick it between headlight and corner, push outward away from car while forward with hand towards you (away from front of car)
thatshow you get it out.

my corners werent too hard to get out tho

I used a plastic part that I had left over from some dirtbike parts. I am glad I kept that in the tool box. It is a triangle plastic wedge and worked great. But man was that thing in there good. I was very surprised that it took that much pressure the first time.

Oh and I cleaned out the headlight with hot soapy water and dried it with a hairdryer. Now the only problem is that it is cleaner than the passenger side one.

try white toothpaste that did some on my car. or go to autozone and get that headlight restore kit, helps slightly.

If the inside of the light is dirty then use the soap water and hair dryer approach. Now if the outside is cloudy like mine were. I used the Flitz ball and their compound to clean them.

I had the moisture in the inside and cloudy plastic on the outside. Now they look as good as new.

Step by step instructions for removing headlights:

1. Buy case of favorite beer.
2. Drink six of them.
3. Are you drunk? No? Drink more. You'll need to be good and drunk for the next step.
4. Fire up the sawz-all.
5. Open hood.
6. Cut fender just behind corner light but be careful not to hit the tire. You wouldn't want to damage it.
7. Move sawz-all around car until front falls from rest of car.
8. Take a break. You deserve it.
9. Drink a beer and apply band-aids to missing fingers.
10. Use sawz-all as needed to expose hard-to-get-to nuts and bolts. (This step should be optional if the front was removed properly).

NOTE: Don't forget to change the blinker fluid before re-installing the headlights.

too many steps.
take out corners, remove grille with 3 bolts, take out 2 bolts up top of headlights and on side, pop/slide it out. simple. you dont need to cut anything.
