Infinity vs. Alpine

Infinity vs. Alpine

Postby flipside » Sat May 12, 2007 1:06 pm

I'm having a tough time deciding between an Alpine based system or an Infinity based system. The Infinity would be cheaper but i'm still not sure what I should do.

Any suggestions?

It really depends on what you're looking to do... If those are the ONLY two brands you are looking at, line for line Alpine generally has a bit better offering... Both companies offer a full range of solutions, however Alpine's lowest end stuff is a bit better than Infinity's lowest end stuff, and Alpine's highest end stuff is FAR superior to Infinity's highest end stuff... The middle end stuff is comparable, however Alpines (in my opinion) tend to be a bit better there as well...

With that said, what is your "system" going to consist of?

If you plan on getting an aftermarket headunit and running speakers directly off of it, you may be better off with Infinity speakers, as they tend to have a higher output on "deck" power.

If you plan to redo your entire setup with a new headunit, an amp or two, speakers and sub(s), then Alpine would be a better way to go.

Give us more details and we'll go from there...

from my experience, alpine subs seem to be a little more efficient on less power, whereas infinities really demand a lot of power. You can not run the kappa perfect series on a stock headunit, you have to have an external amp or they will sound very poor.

Let's get a bit more information from him before we toss him in all different directions... None of us can effectively answer what he wants to know 'till we know what he wants to do...

as with any other alpine thread i stand with what i said.. ALPINE IS GARBAGE!!! ALWAYS HAS BEEN ALWAYS WILL BE esp. their headunits and alarms..

anything from dead CD reading to skpping hard brand new on perfect cds. to alarm failure and completely fing up your electrical system

all with warranty and being replaced more than once..

(any other products ive had installed are golden.. so install failure is not a cause...

Well, originally I was going for an all Infinity setup but I started looking some more and Alpine has started looking good. I'm pretty much certain i'm going to go with an Alpine head unit no matter what brand I go for. I was looking at the Type-R subs but they seem pretty expensive. The Type E's got good reviews on Cruchfield so I figure I might give them a shot.

As for regular speakers, I was planning on getting a 5-1/4" Alpine component set and some Alpine 6x9's for the back. However, I saw some comments from people that said I should just get front speakers since I am getting subs and I don't really need aftermarket rear speakers.

So, what do you think? I'm really just debating on weather or not I should get rear speakers b/c if I don't, I don't need as big an amp to power all 4 speakers.

I think Alpine makes better headunits, but Infinity makes better subs. At least thats how it was 2 years ago when I was looking into this stuff. Infinity's take a lot of power to move though compared to other subs, so you need to pump more amps to them to get them to make the same amount of sound.

Flipside if your going to run an amp to the front components then you dont really need the rear. Without an amp to the front the subs will over power..

Also I would still add the rears since it helps fill the mids and highs that the fronts might not fill in since you have to remember the speakers close to your feet, not your face.

Thanks for the info. Another thing, I have the JBL system now and I have heard talk about needing to bypass the built-in amp. Do I need to worry about this? Please fill me in with details.

If your going to run an amp to your components then youll be bypassing everything anyways. If not I think the aftermarket deck puts out more power but I dont remember for sure. Havnt touch a solara in months.

I appreciate it. I think I am going to just get the front components and an amp for them, and 2 subs for the trunk and an amp for them. I assume that would work well.

sorry this is a little late, but i do have two Type-E's, been running them for about 2 years now and never had one problem with them...think there great and i got a new alpine headunit the one with the glide touch finger thing on it...not sure on the model number but alpine headunits run for a long time...i talk to lots of people when i was looking for a new headunit and people said they would run there alpine head unit for like 5 years and not have one problem so far i havn't had any with mine...but i am a strong believer in alpine and i plan on upgrading to the type-x's soon good luck with your system that you choose
