SC belt tensioner squeaking like hell!!

Postby that1mexguy » Thu Apr 13, 2006 2:24 pm

Ok so the other day my belt started to squeak a lot and my buddy SolaraT sprayed some belt dressing or something like that and it stopped but now that wont even make the squaking go away. I took it to a shop to have it looked at and i was told the belt tensioner needs to be replaced.... now i know they dont make the SC for our cars anymore, and i'm trying to get a hold of someone from TRD to see if i can get this item but i wanted to see if any of you guys have had this issue and if you recommend any other solutions (like taking it apart and lubricating it, etc). It's so freaking loud it's not even funny, thanks in advance.

i hope you find a solution.

oh sweet, thanks a lot.... and may I ask what were the symptoms of why u had to replace urs? was it squeaking too or was there anything else? and I'm assuming this is not so common because I don't recall anybody talking about this as a known issue.

my car is an automatic, so in gear @ idle vibration is not my friend. All the tensioners before started making a squeaking noise while @ certain vibration frequency, mostly @ idle. If this one goes out, i'm going to try to fit something else there.

Hey man, i happen to have the Manual for the SC and I can see this part # is similar to the SC and all but i dont see it in there... i just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing, and is this a TRD part # or a toyota part #, i think they somewhat vary dont they?

The last time the dealer had to order the tensioner as well, and it took about 3 weeks to get it. It was ordered from TRD, but TRD had them on backorder and I think they are also made by Magnusson so the were coming from South Africa or something like that. Hope this helps
