Is there a knock sensor solution?

Postby DatSRBoi » Thu Feb 02, 2006 1:56 pm

Any Smart Guys who actually saw the install of their sensors want to explain why it didnt work? I did all the tapping correctly and all and the sensors still blew after 200 miles of driving on it.

Last time it was a bank 2...now installing these, its a bank 1!!!!

hey dats, I believe that JoeB said even though the sensors are stronger and won't blow easily, they are more sensitive. I ordered some dynamat that Ill be wrapping around the sensors to fix the problem. If its bank 1 you are having problems with, then I suspect its the s/c whining too much. Bank 1 is the rear sensor which is placed closest to the s/c

so basically the conclusion for this is the stock sensors will definetly blow after charging?

I might as well prepare now :-?

yep... 50/50 chance. IF they do go, might as well get the GM replacements + insulate them from false sounds

I blew at least 3 knock sensors, even though I had done fuel upgrades and reduced compression with Jim's cylinder heads. I am convinced that the knock sensors on our cars are just way too sensitive for the supercharged engines. I think that once you get the fuel delivery correct, the big problem is the rear bank (#1) sensor picking up too many outside noises, and identifying them as knocking. I had the #1 sensor wire to the ECU rewired to the #2 sensor about 2 years ago, and have never had a problem since. I'm running 7 psi with Jim's heads, upgraded injectors and fuel pump, along with the JPP headers and exhaust system. I'm in CA, so I'm only using 91 octane gas. I don't really like deactivating the #1 sensor, but until I did that, I was driving in limp mode most of the time.
