Who Here Feels That Their 4 Cylinder Solara Has No Power?

Postby geminiz » Fri Jan 27, 2006 8:33 pm

I have a 2006 SE 4 cylinder 5 speed automatic with about 6000 miles on it now. I have driven my 06 solara for 8 months now and very dissatisfied with the lack of horsepower it has. When the light turns green, I've tried revving the RPM over 3, but the car takes forever to move, and is very loud. The engine, alternator, and timing belt are very loud. I am not exaggerating, any hooptie accelerates faster than my car. I wish I had purchase a V6. Does anyone here feel the same about their solara?

you didnt realize that the car wasnt quick enough for you on your original test drive. im usually dissappointed when i get behind the wheel of a 4 cyl... start savin up and throw a turbo on it and im sure your car will make you much happier...

Well it is a 4 banga......Plus the gen 2 are pretty heavy for a car with a 4 cyl., and Toyotas generally aren't known for their engine performance. I could never drive one, it wouldn't cut it for me on the highway.

Test driving the car for about 10 minutes was not enough to tell if it will result in poor performance down the road. The test drive felt fine, it was silent and smooth. As driving progress after owning the car, that is the only way of knowing that it has lack of power. What I dislike most is the engine or whatever is under the hood that is so loud when you are accelerating from a green light and your car does not seem to move. I feel so unsafe merging onto a highway and also changing lanes passing cars because of the lack of horsepower.

It saves gas =) I have a 4cyl and I think it's fine, I actually still can kill some people, just get it lowered, nice tires w/ traction for handling and you should gain a lil edge. Maybe an CAI or SRI, won't help much though.

Basically... we save gas! I don't want to go fast too, too many tickets, I used to have V6 and while it was fun owning people (bmw's and benz's!) It wasn't worth the gas money.

I wonder why you didn't feel that the Gen 2 four banger had no power when you test drove it. Oh well, wait for the 2007 Camry V6 to come out, it comes with a 3.5L 265 hp engine that is from the avalon.

dude, you bought a 4cyl with an auto in a big heavy car? acceleration is not why you would buy that! but should not be making alternator, etc noises. it is an ultra smooth 4 banger with dual counter rotating balance shafts. learn how to shift effectively with as little clutch slip (unless you want to do smoky burnouts, but even then try and use clutch the least amount possible) as needed and to shift at readline! that 4cyl is a very good motor so rev it! dont lag (too low revs) the engine so it vibrates. that is very bad for engine and much much worse than high revs. change oil often - every 5000kms religiously. learn how to double clutch and heel and toe. you will never over rev the motor (has rev limiter - try it, push pedal to floor in neutral after good warm up and it will bounce off the limiter) during upshifting ie 1-2nd. just dont go from like 5th to 2nd at high speed accidently!!!! -that will surely blow something up. learn how to shift smoothly with no clutch slipping. alot of people also use their clutch like their brakes when downshifting and i cringe because it is just unnecessary wear on the clutch (hence, double clutch and heal and toeing). you can have alot of fun in the 4cyl because it is lighter weight and has quicker turn-in and is more involving to drive quickly. but i will still blow you away in my v6.

be happy with the mpg instead

i understand what you are saying bro, throw some $ into it. the 2az is a great motor. and if you really want some speed, and if you want to suprise a few v6 owners - go turbo..... its worth every penny!

I will lose out big time if i trade it in unless someone here wants to buy it.

kingkakyle............ are the parts left to your engine (timing belt) and the silver metal thing in front of the engine really loud?
Mine is extremely louder than the engine.

you will feel alot better once you ever driven a honda civic CX.

your car was never made for performance. however, i cannot say you made a wrong choice when you buying a car becaue it still a great choice, best for the bucks choice.

i dont know what other car that you can find for the price with lexus riding quality.
