So I take my car to the dealership....

So I take my car to the dealership....

Postby dvdchris45 » Sat Apr 30, 2005 10:37 am

I took on thursday to address the sunroof TSB and the 'hesitation' issue. Long story short my dad goes to pick up my car yesterday and finds out they serviced the ENTIRE car, I'm talking the whole 9. Wheel balancing, alignment, etc..etc..Theres no signature whatsoever on the papers that prove we signed for these services. Basically, we're in a huge fight with the dealership now because we supposedly "Agreed" to get this stuff done.

Now what pushed me to the edge was Toyota CHANGED MY OIL (included in these rape-you-for-your-money-services) from my Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Oil to the vegetable oil and water toyota usually puts in their vehicles. These guys didnt even BOTHER to look at the Mobil 1 sticker on my windshield. I let them have a piece of my mind and that theres no way I'm paying for the replacing of this motor oil (synthetic is not cheap) So they at least offered to change it back on them.

The icing on the cake:
My car STILL has to go back to the dealer ...Reason: They have to order the cable-assembly parts.

And for the throttle/tranny hesitation problem: "We looked up your vehicles's VIN # and IT says there is no ecu/tranny/throttle lag TSB for it.

Sigh....Now my car is at the dealer and I'm gonna give my local Lexus dealership a call and see if they can do something about the lag. Man, at this point I dont care if they program an ES330's software into my ECU. It possibly couldnt be any worse.

On a side note: I test drove a 2005 RX330 (loaner that they gave to my cuz) and it the throttle response was awesome. The power flows so freely.
Nevertheless, that was my adventure.

Damn Chris, I wish you luck. What dealership did you go to anyway? That's f'up that they didn't have you sign a service agreement, I think they are at fault and know it. They are probably giving you a hard time because someone didn't follow the rules. Get on them!!!! I'm pretty sure they have to have signitures to make it official. Here are a list of TSB's I found on https://www.infotraxx.com/. It is free to this point, but when you upgrade they give detailed descriptions and how to go about fixing them.

I took it to Keyes, larry. These guys just walk around all day with their fingers up their noses. I called and asked about the the throttle lag issue for my car but the manager stressed the tsb doesnt call for my car's vin range (doesnt match). I'm gonna give toyota of noho a call. What was that guy's name you suggested?

Damn, crazy shlock-dock-wikki-wacki-dacki. Try calling Joey Bernardo, he's been pretty good with June and I. I believe he's been pretty good with working on fixing problems, but we really haven't dealt much with TSB's (luckily).

and now you go to longo just to 'test it out' ;)

that's crap! no signatures = don't pay.

you should have paid w/ a check and stated on it "DID NOT SIGN FOR SERVICE" in the memo so it can be like a deposit to take your car... then sue for the cash back.

Hopefully they don't have a signature on file (some shady dealers forge)

- The fact that they changed your oil from Mobile one is actually a good thing. That's an obvious case of them "taking initiative" and lends credance to your claim that they did all the other stuff w/o being asked. Tell them you'll be taking them to small claims if they don't refund you all the labor for the other items. That's a reasonable compromise.

- on the TSB, unless it came out in the past week, the guy was BSing you. As of one week ago when I went in for my exhaust replacement, there was no TSB released yet for the lag fix for any Solara. I'm hoping the press release was right and that it will still be coming.

DocJohn's vacuum trick

Postby mmcdonald » Sun May 01, 2005 12:24 pm

Guys, guys, just do DocJohn's vacuum trick and the lag will be gone. It only takes 2 minutes to re-route the vacuum lines.

I have no more lag and I get about 1.5 - 2 mpg better than before. About 34mpg on the highway with 2 - 200+ lbs males, and 75mph average.

Amazing! I can't get anywhere near 34mpg on my SE-V6 and I did do Doc's intake trick. (With one person in the car.)

Seriously, it seems that not everyone has the lag issue. I still do even after the vacuum trick. Granted, Doc's mod helped, but there's definately a programming issue with the TBW or transmission downshift / upshift.

I doubt our mileage varies that much. Our guages on the other hand... Some people post their mileage assuming that the cute little number on the dash is correct. I'm guessing that's why you see some folks saying 17 and some saying 25. Up in the 30's, 34 guage = 32 reality. I get 30 without the mod so I believe it. But I have to drive like a pussy to get that. I'm definately doing the DocMod for the 750 mile trip to MD though.

Agreed, the only way to get 32 or over average (green display posted average, not real) is to get up to speed on the highway, stay mostly at that speed, hardly ever accelerate again and if you do, make it slow.

That's what I do do (huh-huh, I said do do)

I get up to speed on the BW Parkway, and roll all the way down the hill to DC. I get 34 on that route. Then on the way back uphill it's lower, around 30.

I have driven all the way to Wilmington, NC with two women and luggage in the car and gotten 30.5 BEFORE the mod.

I'll see what I do on the trip to Bar Harbor next month.

I have been kind of curious about my mileage too. I'm doing a road trip to Bar Harbor as well in three weeks and was thinking about just driving the speed limit and taking it easy to see what kind of mileage I can get. With my last car there was a very noticable difference between 60-65mph and 75mph. I'm wondering if the Slolara will as well
When in doubt gas it out, brakes just slow you down.

I've gotten low 30's mpg on the highway even while cruising at 70. I just never accelerated hard and kept my speed as nonvarying as possible on long highway rides. I haven't seen any mileage difference between driving at 60 or 70.

Cruise Control Baby! The diff in this ride is much better than my last Camry. That one was 21mpg at worst and 23 mpg at best. Must be the modern ECU and the TBW helping out once up to speed.

I'll be keeping detailed records on my roadtrip next weekend so I can compare with the post-mod. All results will be posted with the dyno data in June. For the Mazda, cp-e realized 3-5mpg improvement.

... But we digress... Hey, Chris. What's the deal with your dealer. Any movement on the bogus bill?
