Spark Plugs

Postby smacd11 » Tue May 02, 2006 7:20 pm

What spark plugs are recommended to use with a s/c v6? Are OEM plugs ok or should I use a colder heat range?

Cheers,
Shawn

Most use Denso Iridium, a bit colder. Search for the specific part # and all that, should be a lot of info using the right keywords.

Btw, access to the rear bank is a pain with the S/C on.

Thanks for the reply. TRD sent me a response to the question stating that they recommend the OEM plugs with the S/C.

If I was smart I would have replaced them when I installed the blower 3 months ago.

I'm using Denso Iridium (Toyota P/N 90919-01210) SK20RII and I think I paid $7.50/each.

SC plugs

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Thu May 04, 2006 2:35 pm

I have had various failures of the Iridium plugs in the SuperSolara so I switched to a plug used in the BMW M cars. It has four cathodes instead of just two on the stock plugs and is a platinum plug as well. They have been flawless. It is a NGK. Part number is BKR6EQUP. Stock number is 3199.

Sparkplug

Postby esculatus » Wed Jul 19, 2006 11:03 am

Hi guys,

Did mechanics give you grief about changing spark plugs on the SC'ed solara being more difficult? I am looking for somebody that can do this in the San Jose area. Anyone have any recommendation?

Thanks~

I use IK22s also.

Just replaced my first set after 30k miles (SC was removed to replace knock sensor so we had easy access). So far so good

IK22

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Thu Jul 20, 2006 2:03 pm

Yes, I had three of the 6 IK22 ND iridium plugs go out on me, one at a time. I think it may have been due to rich fuel mixtures but the BMW spec plug works really well.

Jim, I just ordered a set of these.
By any chance, do you know what kind of gap I need?
Thanks

They are pre-gapped so just put them in (unless you drop one)

IK20s are for normally aspirated cars. The IK22s are for supercharged cars. Because of the forced air (more pressure), it creates more heat. The IK22 is a cooler running plug. I currently have IK22s in my supercharged car. No problems for over 3 years.
