Photoshoot after Auto-X'ing and In-Car Video

Today was the first time I went to Auto-X. After the Auto-X, I decide to take some photos. The weather was damn nice! I also took a few videos with the Ghetto In-Car Camera Mount. I crapped the first 6 runs because I just wanted to go fast without thinking clearly. I thought about the lines a bit before the 7th run and took the right lines. Anyways, enough words... just look at the pictures. If you have imagestation account, go here instead: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4289571209

For the video, you NEED to have an imagestation account. It's around 36MB so it shouldn't take too long to download:

Auto-X is DAMN fun, it's the best way to learn how to drive. It's definitely satisfying when you keep shaving off time from previous runs. It also teaches you the very limit of the car. (With all the mods on the car I was driving, I still haven't reached the very limit. I am sure I could have shave off at least 2-3 second if I did everything perfectly.) In a perfect world where money is not a problem, I would go every week; but damn, those tires do wear off a lot faster at BB.

IMO, I think Auto-X is a lot more complex than track-racing because the cones basically create lots of possible racing lines while you can easily see the line on a track.

Whoever wants to go, go once at least! You won't regret it. You will definitely learn something. You will also learn that your driving is not as good as you think. :D

It was 10:30 and I couldn't sleep. It's auto-x the next day and I wanted to take some videos. I decided to make an in-car camera mount to take some in-car video.

Anyways...

Time spent: 15 minutes
Money spent: $0 (The whole mount is made from crap lying in the garage)
Material used: 1 piece of wood, 1 screw, 2 nuts, 2 washers

Drilled 3 holes. Drilling and measuring took the most time.

BTW, if you look at the bigger pictures at the imagestation album, you should be able to see the Corbeau Pro Sport seat on the driver side... I LOVE that seat.

Joining the club was 10 bucks (Canadian Currency). Club membership is valid for 1 year. Each event is 20 bucks (Canadian again). How many runs you get depends on how many people show up; there were only 30 people there so we all get 9 runs yesterday. (Some even got 11 runs)

It was my first time, and my time was around 75 second, then I did better and pulled a 65 seconds around the cones.

This course this time was not a high speed course, so the Miatas were dominating. (There's also this stock S2000 which was pretty quick). Their best run were around 55 seconds. Those Mustangs and 240sx were quite fast too, at around 60 seconds. (don't say those stangs are bad at turning :D )

that was really good driving there for you. I would be half scared to pull that on open the road. To see such perfomance off a solara is nice.

Thanks! I am amazed by the handling of the car too... but at this point, I can't outdrive the car yet.

There's a pretty talented person driving a stock Gen 4 Camry pulling around the same time as me. His car was in bad shape when cornering, but he definitely drove it fast (because he doesn't care much about his tires haha). I, however, feel real bad if I have to destroy some tires to pull 2 seconds faster.

Little of topic but Hey did you run ur car on a stock set up? If your car was 100% pure factory, would those corners you took be bad? and how fast were your going at the corners? Cuz i dont know. my car is still new (67,000 miles mainly highways) and for some reason when I hit the corners i hear rubbing already . And my car is basicly factory.

Wow this thread is old. Anyways, I actually ran the course with Bilstein Struts, Eibach Springs, and front and rear swaybar.

Since it's a newbie event, I corner at 30-50km/h or so.

The sound you hear might be tire screeching. Personally, I think auto-x'ing is a good way to build up your knowledge in taking the racing line. That is pretty much the only thing that applies to real life driving. Of course, you can also learn the limit of your car so you won't work the car over its limit.

If your Solara is stock, the swaying is quite severe. I've seen stock Camry out there before. It got a faster time than me because I didn't know how to drive.
