Neon lights under seat

Neon lights under seat

Postby Craziluke » Sun Apr 23, 2006 7:05 pm

i posted a topic under general talk last week about the neon lights my girlfriend was getting me for my birthday, they are 6" mini neon tubes from Streetglow, anyway i installed them today and i really like them alot. I put them directly under the seats so that you cannot see the bulb. i ran the wires underneath the carpet and behind the center consul into the back of the ashtray right next to the lower cigarette lighter. in order for these lights to work you need the cigarette lighter adapter that has a wire running into a transformer (this all came with the lights) and you plug the two neon tubes into the transformer. i put the transformer in the ashtray since i dont use it, and drilled three holes holes in my ash tray (two in the side, and one in the front) to run a wire from the lower cigarette lighter into the ashtray and the two neon light wires from the back of the center consal into the side ashtray from the back so you dont see them at all. So all in all you see about 1/3" of wire from the Cigarette lighter to the bottom of the ashtray. Im very happy with the outcome and if you want ill take some day time pictures to show you the way i installed them but just let me kno

I fixed the sizing they are still kinda big but these are the daytime pics and i will submit the night pictures tonight but alot small, the problem was my camera. In the pictures though, you can see how the wire is being run from the neon into a slit in the carpet.

Not a bad place for them.
But IMO i would be scared of steppin' on them.
Nice place for the neon transformer.
I put mine under ther center arm-rest console.

i like the place where u put the transmitter as well. very sleek. i would be worried about stepping on them also. when i had them underneath the seat, they were a little farther back and light was shining in front and in back of the seat so i was able to kill two birds with one stone.

very nice work tho!!!!

Not bad.

Something you might consider is hitting the Tutorials forum and reading up on the DIY Illuminated Door Entry... I did something similar with mine (I have 6" white CCFLs up front, and a 3" white CCFL under each seat). I ended up running the seat wires from the front, under the driver's seat (the ground wire is connected to a variable ground that turns on when the doors are opened) and under the carpeting to the seats themselves. I'll get some pictures together tomorrow of the seat installs, but they came out looking pretty good - and yeah, as everyone is saying, I'd be freaked out about stepping on them... and I personally didn't want to be able to see where the light was coming from. I just wanted to see the light. :)
