Group buy is on pause. Payment sent. For those who didn't pay yet. After I receive this batch I can get it at the same price with a minimum order of 15. Or you can get one directly from the company for $15 + shipping

It'll take 2 or 3 days for them to process and 5 or 6 business days for the shipment to me. Then I have to package them and ship them out to you guys. I'm 90% sure you guys will get it before christmas. All depends on the snail mail.

I'd like to get on this. But, I got to wait until I get my car back from UPFD, which should be in a week or so. I also got some Brembo Supra turbo slotted front rotors and Brembo Solara slotted rears coming in. I'd like to get a shot of my ride with those.

Rich, I really like this idea!!! It'd be nice to see some pics of our rides on a calendar. I know I'll probably take 2, 1 for home and 1 for work. :D

*edit - Rich, you may know all this already, but if you don't, let me know if you need any help converting photo's over for print. I'm just posting all of this technobabble so you don't get a tiny litte 72dpi 2 by 2in photo. I have clients that send me photo's that are the tiniest images and basically useless.*

I would also mention that along with being a 600x800, it should be at least Raw or High JPG. If it's a High res JPG, it's only 180dpi and you will need to res it up. Optimal print quality will only come from a 300dpi image. A 600x800 (8.5in x 11in) pic at 72dpi will look like hell when it goes to press.

Best formula when resing up for print is:

180 x .10 = 198 x .10 = 218 x .10 = etc...untill you get it up to 300. Save each time you up the resolution. It will only have minor effects on the quality but you can use a sharpen filter to get it looking proper.

If you need any help, PM me. Im an art director at an ad agency and shoot a lot of product shots.

*note - even the best quality raw image is only 280 dpi if its a 8 mega pixel camera. But the dimensions should be larger then 800x 600 so you might be in the clear.

I just got a PM asking about how to prep a photo for press. I hope this doesn't make things even more confusing :P

DPI is Dot Pixels per inch. Your Highest setting on your camera produces a photo that's x big and x wide but usually results in a smaller DPI setting then 300 dpi. 300 is an industry standard for print resolution. Much like how screen resolution is always 72 dpi. No matter what the size your photo or graphics application tells you the image is, the output will always be 300dpi for print and 72dpi for screen resolution.

This explination may help. Take your photo thats 3in by 5in and drop it into a browser window. It's huge and certainly not 3in by 5in. This is because your browser converts it to 72dpi and expands the pixels per inch. If you convert that image to 72dpi but maintain the 3in by 5in, the browser will read it as 3in by 5in and keep it at it's proper 72dpi.

Now think about this as far as a print goes. Take a 72dpi image thats 3in by 5in and print it out at that size. The print quality is very pixely. If that image was 300dpi and 3in by 5in, it will come out flawless.

Your highest setting on your camera most likely takes the photo at a 180dpi or 240dpi (i'm gonna guess 180dpi w/ a 7.2mp cam). When you bring this over to photoshop or link it into a publishing application, you will need to convert the photo to 300dpi and this will change your over all dimensional size (not the quality).

To explain this in another way, Say you take your 600 x 800 image that is 180dpi - your image dimention is 4.4in by 3.3in - and you convert it to 300 dpi, but do not constrain the proportions or resample the size, you now have a 300dpi 600 x 800pixel image - which changes it to a 2.6in by 2in print image size.

Say you want to make this a larger image but you want to maintain the 300dpi quality.

You will need resample the image while you multiply the resolution x .1 or 10% and save, multiply again by .1, and save - you continue this untill you have reached your desired over all size. Say you continue this formula untill you have a 500dpi 2.6in by 2in image. You then re-set the resolution with out resampling to 300 DPI. Your photo will now by a 300 dpi 6x6in photo or whatever size that math ends up being.

I hope this helps and i hope your head isn't hurting too much!!

Let me know if this makes sense or not!

And just a side note! The photo colors that all digital camera's produce use a RGB setting. You MUST convert this to CMYK to maintain proper color seperation. Very few printers use RGB and I Know this is not what will be used for a calender. CMYK are the four colors a printer uses to seperat the digital color information for the printed file. C=Cyan M=magenta Y=yellow K=black (It's K so it would not be confused as B for Blue)

You mention converting a photo to 300 dpi and resampling. How do you do this with Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro for example? I don't see how. Can you provide more detail on how to convert?

Thanks for the info so far.

So what does dpi stand for? Just kidding. LOL Thanks for the excellent info!!

I had no idea about this end of digital photography. I love to take the shots but I never got into image manipulation due to my weak computer. (I've got to invest in a MAC someday!)

If you don't mind helping out with 12 image preps, I'll pay for your calendar! I have a feeling I'm going to order a few anyway.
