Painted Calipers

Painted Calipers

Postby PhreakdOut » Mon May 09, 2005 10:41 pm

I finally got around to painting the fronts this weekend. I applied so many coats, I'm surprised they still work. (Ha,ha)

I picked up a couple TRD decal sets on my last trip to Japan. (I believe they were for brakes. I'm not sure as I can not read Japanese. I'll have to have it translated.) We'll see how long they last. If they endure, then I'll pick up a few sets when I go back later this month. I've been working the brakes hard to speed up the test. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.)

As soon as I can locate a reasonably priced set of larger disc brakes, I'll make the jump to 18" or 19" wheels. (20s just don't make sense with these northern roads.)

Ignore the scratch on the body kit. (The joys of lowered vehicles and curbs. Doh!)

Dam, that looks like the calipers came from the factory. Great job. Did you used the resin paint from G2??? Anyway keep up the good work.

Thanks guys ...

I used VHT's caliper paint from AutoZone. The key is prep work. I did a lot of sanding and cleaning. Unfortunately, a couple tiny spots wouldn't take the paint very well because I didn't do enough prep work. (Live and learn)

One can should be enough for 4 calipers. (For me, one can lasted two calipers.) Lord knows how many coats that comes to.

Mine are like that, but need to redo them, cause driver side is crackin' and i did a decent prep job.
Maybe when i all comes off or somethin' i repaint them better.

Nice man that red is super clean... I wish mine were that red... I only applied like 2 coats on mine... lol the vht was getting expensive.. cuzz i did my rear brakes as well.. but nice mod.. and yes the trd emblem gives it a nice touch of sporty class...

All solars should come with some nice custom break calipers with TRD on them ;-)

how much were the trd emblems, the trd emblem is too tiny to read nicely...but nevertheless it looks SUPERB! I need to redo my calipers this summer...surprizing they were painted in 2001 (4-5 coats) and still lasting....

Nice find!

Ya' know, life would have been easier if I'd just searched the net a little better. I found mine at AutoBacs in Japan for 1,050 Yen (About 10 bucks for a sheet) I'll post up a picture of the sheet sometime soon.

One thing to keep in mind, the front OE calipers are pretty small. (Hence the small decal.) I have even less room to work with on the rears.

OK, I found the decals online.

Lesson #1: Retail always costs more. It would have been cheaper to buy this online. (Even with shipping)

Lesson #2: Learn to read Japanese. The guy at AutoBacs assured me that these are good for brake calipers. Hey, we'll see. After a week, they still look perfect and I've even run it through a car wash. (Time will tell.)

Here's the sheet I used.

BTW: The stickers are from TRD, so I've found the quality to be pretty good.

Shipped price: $9.99 or 2 sheets for $16.79
