Thanks guy.
Okang.,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm really appreciated it.
As you notices, the lcd housing is curved outward, and I needed to keep all the button to control the lcd, therefore, I had to cut out the crossbar. As you saw in my tested fit, there were two gaps between the lcd monitor and the AC control, however, I was able to cover those gaps with the carbon fiber sticker. Leaving the crossbar would look better, I argree with you there, but the LCD woudln't fit.
As for the laptop idea, I'd thought about it but decided to go against it becauce:
1. Laptop will not fit in the glove box.
2. Need to have the power inverter to power up the laptop, which creates a buzzing noise. That annoyed me.
3. Can't upgrade in the future in case I need bigger harddrive, memory, ect..
4. Can't be mounted temporarily anywhere, it needs to be scew down securely somewhere. The key here is style, and out of sight, out of mind...
5. Laptop will create a lot of heat, just imagine using the laptop for several hours in your laps....
6. How do you power on & off the laptop if it's below the passenger's seat?
The reason I go with the mini computer (you might need to check out this website www.mini-itx.com) because:
1. It's small, powerfull enough, take DC-DC power supply directly from the battery, less heat, not require any cooling and it's so quiet, you don't even know it's running or not.
2. for file transfer, I can use the wireless LAN from the parking lot to my server (Verizon DSL) in the 3rd floor easily. If needed, I just take it out the glove box.
Well, you will find out about this EPIA motherboard after viewing www.mini-itx.com
3. I can power the comuter on & off directly from the driver seat with this:
Anyway, with this mini mobo, the sky is the limit, that was the reason why I didn't go with the laptop idea.
HKSV6SLE, thanks.
Solarat,
I just use the normal 30 gig 7200 RPM Maxtor harddrive. This carputer thing is just like any normal desktop out there, but it's just small.
krooked Solara,
I assumed that you asked about the DVD player, didn't you? I will put the DVD player in the cigarrette/ashtray location.
swimshady906,
LOL.... I'm not handy enough to sand down the dash bezel. I put lot of bondo there, and sanded it down to paint but somehow the surface was still not smooth enough, so I bough some CF sticker to cover it.
Those CF you could find in ebay.
