Hood venting mesh MOD*update!

Im gonna call you mr DIY. haha.

Cool mod and functional mod. I wish i had the balls to do that. iono seem to be harder on a white car to paint match it.

I kind of like it jsut on one side tho... two might be well too much? I kno it will be symmetric but i kinda like the one vent offset.

You guys really think it looks good with just one vent? I might just leave it then. I think it would look awesome on a white car, and I didn't have to paint match anything, the rubber strip covers any bare metal. I just used flat black spray paint for the mesh.

Cool man I like the shape you chose for the cut out. I have a couple suggestions, get an AEM Dryflow filter and do something to seal/ rustproof the cut. I like the one vent look, but I don't know, it might look better with two, your decision. Also get pics from the underside of the hood.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

I saw this done on a S2K forum. Didn't think it could be done to a Solara. Nice work being a pioneer on this mod!

This is an awesome mod. I can't wait to see a DIY tutorial. I'll prob tackle this project later in the fall when I can come up with a good template and away to rid of precipitation. I still want the engine bay quite so I'm probably going to laydown dynamat .5 inch dampener. I'm surprised double sided tape is holing the mesh well. Good job with everything.

Wow, I'm gonna feel like an asshat.

You are actually going to be sucking in more hot air then you are cold. You have seriously comprimised the airflow dynamics of your engine compartment.

While at highway speeds, that vent will actually be creating suction out of the engine bay. Meaning the hot air from the engine will be flowing up from the engine, past your filter, and out that vent. Meaning at speeds, you will actually be sucking up hotter air. Make sense?

I'm sorry to sound like that bad guy here...I just don't want people doing this thinking its a performance booster.

And if I'm wrong, I'd love for someone to show me why. Because thats just what makes sense to me. I'm no expert.

I would at least make it symmetrical rather than just having one cut out.

It's been done before, Google search TRD hood and on the first page is the red Solara that did it.
