I got 17's cuz I wanted more rubber so I didnt have to worry bout potholes, snow, etc.

17's aren't bad especially if you the road conditions prevent you from going bigger

and 5x100 is the lug pattern
and offset i can't explain

Mark is correct about the Lug pattern part as far as 5x100 or 5x114.3. The solara's platform is lug patterned to 5x114.3.

the best why offset can be explained is on the web page i just linked.

also solara uses the offset from +35 to +45 offset for 7" wide rims. If you have wider wheels such as by 8" i would go with +40 to +35 so you wont have a problem with rim sitting too far in. I have 19x7.5 and its +42 offset. and it fits perfectly.
