Quest for Wheels Roadtrip - 1,100 miles in 24 hours

Postby PhreakdOut » Wed Nov 09, 2005 10:45 pm

Startedout this am at 7:30 in Ypsilanti Michigan. Arranged to pick up some wheels I purchased online here. Where are they? Nashville. :o I decided to make a hellova trip out of it.

I'll have to post up pics when I actually finish the trip. So far, I'm on the way back and I've racked up 837.3 miles and I'm in Cincinnati. 1,100 should be no problem. I've got a cooler of Red Bull. I'm set.

On the way back, I stopped by Lexington to meet "Da man!" The Arctic Frost Project in person. Holy Schnikes! What a cool car! I love those doors. Mike, it was great to meet you and your friend. (Already forgot his name. I need sleep!!) Feel free to post up some of the pics you took in this thread.

It was a great mini-meet. I look forward to our next get together.

I'll finish this in 300+ miles.
-Brian

Made it back safe and sound. Surprisingly, no tickets. I have somewhat of a history with Indiana and Kentucky so I tried hard to avoid any reunions. The last 250 miles were nearly on autopilot. :o Yikes!

Total miles in less than 19 hrs driving time was 1,103.7. (Not bad mapquest! Pretty close estimate.) Anyways, on to the good stuff!

A couple pics on the way down. Most of the trees were bare till you hit southern Indiana. I thought I'd take my last chance at a Fall pic. It would be almost dark by the time I'd get to Nashville. No time to clean or postion for the best lighting. Snap and get back on the road again!!

After picking up the wheels (thanks Chris!!) I headed to Lexington and met up with Michael and his Arctic Frost Project. I also met Jeremy who has a screen name I failed to remember. (Give me a few more hours and it'll come to me!) We had three Gen2s in the lot. My red and Jeremy's black seemd to disappear in the dark. Michael's pearl paint just lights up at night. (Kind of makes me wish I had selected that color.) Here are a couple shots for what they're worth.

What a great time! We'll have to hook up again since we're only five hours apart. (That seems pretty short after this drive.)

Yep, nice pics. I love how that red color when clean looks like liquid sheen.

LOL!! Thanks for the compliments. I love this camera!! It was raining off and on so I couldn't keep the car clean for very long. I toweled it off and used a circular polarizer filter on the camera to get rid of the dull look. Learning camera tricks is easier than the elbow grease needed to get the car looking real good in person. LOL

In real life, it looked horrible. The hood and bumper need a repaint.

Lowered car + lots of highway miles + Michigan gravel trucks + crappy Michigan roads = unhappy Solara owner. LOL

It looks like it was sandblasted. Maybe I'm pickey.

Hehe, when I first read that, I read 'bike' to mean bicycle. Needless to say that didn't make any sense ...

I reserved the sleeping for the long straightaways.

New rims: I'm going to keep everyone in suspense till I can replace the tires on it. (Just ordered them this week) The ones that came with it are too small in outside diameter. I'm sure you can figure out which ones they are if you search the for sale section. LOL

1,000 miles per day on a motorcycle: This is where I got the title "Iron Butt." A guy I worked with would do this every year. (But not 10 days straight. :o That's insane. Cool, but insane!) LOL

 Thanks for the props. However, there are some awesome Gen2 here that, in my opinion, I can't hold a candle to. It would be cool to have an annual SolaraGuy / ToyotaNation car show / convention. (Alternate left and right coast year after year.) It would be a great opportunity to see these rides in person.

LMAO! No kidding! Lexington, Kentucky was the closest clean parking lot to the Detroit area. How inconvenient! :P Detroit parking lots either have someone living on it, an abandon car left there or someone living IN the abandon car there. J/K

Thanks for postin' pics bro and it was nice of you to stop by my area for a mini meet. The red w/ black grilles is so clean bro, I'm glad I was able to finally see this in person.

I'll keep you posted on the black chrome strip cover piece.

Can't wait to see pics of your new shoes on your ride bro.
